 Good luck LGL

You'll never go far wrong, if, on reaching the first green, you break into an admiring grin and say: "Amazing how Harry Colt set up so many putts to break against the line of charm."

C'mon then - how did it go?

I really hope that LGL and her team are too busy celebrating for her to post details of the result!

Hope you had a good day LGL and it ended with your team winning Look forward to hearing how the day went

 Hi All
Sorry I didn't post sooner. I went straight from Sunningdale to a birthday party and have only just got home.
The news isn't good I'm afraid to say. The day started with a phone call saying they had a trolley ban and we all had to carry! Considering it's such a prestigious course, the water lying on the fairways, greens and bunkers was pretty bad.
We lost 3/2 in the end.
I went out first and lost on the 16th to a former Curtis Cup player (1 handicap now) who had the most fantastic short game. Even though I chipped in twice it still wasn't good enough!
Player 2 lost on the same hole. They were both off 5.
Player 3 won on the 16th. She off 5, opponent off 7)
Player 4 won on the 17th, She off 5, opponent off 16
Player 5 lost on the 17th, She off 2, opponent off scratch.
On the day they played better although it was all fairly close. I think had I played the course before it would have helped, especially clubbing the par 3's. But, my lady had been a member there 33 years and she said she knew every blade of grass!
I'm proud of myself as I haven't had a great deal of experience at this level but I still think I could have won.
IF ONLY lol.
Next year.

Thanks BTW for all your kind comments and support. You're all great.

It sounds like you all did yourselves proud. To get such a close result under the circumstances is a fantastic achievement.
|
 |
LGL - I think that your team did extremely well considering the barriers which were put up to prevent it being a "fair" contest. I hope that you were all treated with due courtesy on the day.
|
 |
LGL - you may have lost on the scoring front but I think your team came out as the winners overall Hope you all enjoyed the day
|
 |
Hard luck - but it's fired you all up for next year. Sounds like it was a tough match. Despite the soggy conditions did you enjoy the course?
|
 |
Who was the ex-Curtis cup player?
|
 |
I'm going to hazard a guess - Carole Caldwell ?

LGL. Apologies if this has already been suggested. What I would do is write to all of the clubs you have known to enter this competition informing them in a factual (not emmotional) manner of Sunningdales attitude towards fees and recommend that said clubs give Sunningdale the same treatment. For that matter you could find out who they are playing in every round and then post the letter again. Sorry you didn't win, but like you say playing a new course is difficult enough. Especially when it comes to scrambling. Well done. BTW I have managed to reach the final of my clubs mixed foursomes, a competition I was abit wary to enter for the ribbing I expected from my mates. I have been fortunate to be partnered with a lovely women who is a solid partner and even my mates have been supportive as the comp has progressed. I was extremely surprised to realise how fast the women players are, I just wish some of the men would follow their example.

Pengwyn , you said I was extremely surprised to realise how fast the women players are, Welcome to the club! Lady golfers have a bad press.I find generally that they play at a reasonable pace, possibly as they don't hit the ball so far. and it's a case of just walking forward and hitting it again. And if memory serves me,I cannot remember the last time being held up by them. Unlike some male fourballs

Well done LGL, matchplay is very difficult and you did extremely well considering that you were up against an opponent of quality, on her home course, without the opportunity to practice it!
|
 |
_of_18th_n_berwick.JPG) Wha LGL didn't say was that her team won the "punch up" in the car park afterwards! (see Armstrong and Miller's "It's kicking off!" sketch!)

I see that Sunningdale got through to the finals, there was an article on it in yesterdays MOS. Eddie Jordan's wife brought the victory in.
