Hi guys new to the forum, and need some help.

Iv finally decided to get my own set of clubs, iv got my mind set on a set of md superstrong eql as iv read great reviews. Heres the thing, iv been told that being a male and high handicapped i should start with steel shafts however i can get the eql's with the blue prolaunch graphite shaft (which rrp at £100 more) for less or around same price as the steel shaft.

Will the differrance in shaft make much of a differance to my game and should i just stick with the steels regardless of the price. it just seems weird getting steels when i can get the graphite for the same price but perhaps thats just me being ignorant. looking forward to your responses. Thanks

Jim,

Graphite shafts can be very good, but they will only be advantageous if they happen to suit you, and you are taking a bit of a chance if you buy them without trying first. You may get more distance with them but at the cost of accuracy.

The best thing you can do is try them out first, otherwise go for steel shafts.

Theres no reason at all that the graphite shafts in those clubs would result in less accuracy. That's an old fallacy.

Have to disagree, when I first tried my Wilson Staff DI7s (knowing nothing about steel or graphite and thus no bias) the difference in accuracy, even with my fairly unrepeatable swing was very major with only a small sacrifice in length, steel was the very obvious choice

Now i bet your confused??

Like 23rd said you need to try before you buy whatever you choise. would be good if you could try both.

no so much a fallacy , just a bit outdated , modern branded graphite's are much better than earlier or unbranded examples but  at a premium . some club-builders because of the extra weight saved will make graphite irons an inch or so longer than there steel counterparts this extra length in unison with higher torque ratings for graphites is where the "more distance less accuracy quotes stem from"

Don't kid yourself...shafts are everything. Club heads are so similar in terms of technology, design, lofts, grooves and center of gravity. Hard to find something really awful. What makes this technology work with your swing is the shaft. Get fitted so your swing is matched with right shaft otherwise you will never be able to take advantage of the lofts.
