My Golf Swing At Present.

This was from the range tonight. Not the best session i had recently. Its definetly work in progress and i know i have alot to work on. My weight transfer is poor at best and i rarely feel balanced after my swing. Especially with the longer clubs. I am alsot still coming inside a more then i would want too. I have only been playing about 9 months so looking to improve as much as i can.

Note : Sorry that its a bit of a low angle i didn't have anything to prop it up on so had to make do with an upside down basket.

Looks pretty solid to me Nick, I am no expert so won't give advice but I think the work n progress s going ok so far.

Hi Nick

Good progress for nine months, but a couple of observations!

Your take away goes a bit outside the line

your head moves of the ball on the backswing resulting in a lack of focus on the ball

if you stop the film at impact you seem to be on your toes and your body is not clearing, try rotating your hip out the way through impact and your left foot and heel should be grounded at impact

Try not using the tee peg apart from with your driver

Yeah the weight transfer is and playing into a strong left side is something i can't get to grips with.

When you say outside the line when exactly are you referring too? On My takeaway?

for the time, Nick, you've a great golf swing. It's already been said about your takeaway. It's just a bit handsy is all, which is making you whip it inside a little. Try starting it off a little slower so you can really feel whats happening.

I think you'll find it easier to balance if you make a shorter swing. Feel like you're stopping at 9 o clock. your momentum will take you back further, but you'll have more control. You'll be amamzed how far it goes

Alright thanks for the tips. As for as my takeaway i really am making a consious effort to keep my wrists stiff so don't know why its still so handsy. Also do you think my swing plane needs to be a bit more upright? Is that a product of a handsy takeaway?

As per above, I think that is a pretty good swing for only 9 months.

I am not an expert on this but here's my tuppence worth; your shoulders are pointing slightly left of target, bring them a little round to the right and this should then help with the takeaway being more inside.

With your swing plane, I think if you swapped your backswing for your downswing and vice versa, you would be spot on.

Ok thanks again, i am probably going to the range again on thursday so will work on some of the things then. I think my main problem is my lack of balance throughout the swing and when i finish. The takeaway is something i know i can fix if i practice it enough.

I guess its about time i took a golf lesson.

I agree with Birdie Boy about your shoulders. You can see they are pointing left of where your feet are lined up.

Stepping through your video, you can see that the last little bit of backswing with the arms is resulting in a steep downswing.  I think shortening the the backswing would not only improve the dowswing plane, but also help with your balance problem.

Squaring your shoulders up, parallel to your feet will also help you to take the club away a bit more on the inside and feel that slightly flatter plane your after. win win!

I feel like my shouders are squared when i address the ball and its pretty hard to check in the mirror i think. Is there a good way to do it?

use a club like you had on the floor get your mate to put it accross your shoulders se whre they are pointing maybe?

Nick, video is one of the only really efficient ways to check such a thing. That or have someone stand behind you.

don't think about keeping them stiff as that will only create tension in your swing. Either think of pushing your hands straight back low or think of moving the whole club away together rather than clubhead first.

This is definately why you're not on plane on the way back. 

What Reckless says re stoping your swing a little earlier is valid too. You should only go back as far as you can whilst maintaining your spine angle and knee flex.

Thanks so much for your input guys. I am gonna get infront of the mirror later. Breaking my bad takeaway habbit is harder then i thought.

Tips for

Open shoulders

try to aim the shoulders slightly to the right, it will feel closed but wont be, you will have to set the tweak in to your pre swing routine then get it checked in a weeks time by a pro. Its easy when your aiming straight but harder when aim left or right so vary your targets and practice with a buddy if you can.

you will kwno when you have the correct allignment and take away when you can start the ball slightly to the right then draw back (you cant do that with open shoulders)

Balance tips:

hit shots with your feet together (the old classic)

hit shots with your shoes off (looks a bit odd but very affective)

hit balls with a full swing but at half speed (your feet should make no noise through the swing, ie slipping or dragging)

I had a practice infront of the mirror last night. Worked a bit on my takeaway and alignment. I felt it really helped. I put a line of masking tape on the floor and took my address position with my feet. Then put an old shaft across my shoulders too check my shoulder alignement. Too get the shaft parrallel with the club on the floor it almost felt like my shoulders were closed.

Also worked on loosening up my wrists and keeping my takeaway on line. I found that if i imagined i was swinging the club back and through then made my takeaway it was alot smoother and on plane.
