The most annoying thing is the way he always makes out that whatever the PM is doing is the best possible response to the crisis. When he does that, in order to maintain the BBC's political neutrality he should be forced to war a sign round his neck stating that he is Brown's biographer and chum - Roy Hattersley in his review of Peston's book Brown's Britain stated "Peston is partisan. He is a Brownite and Brown's Britain does not disguise it."
One does gain the impression that Mr Preston is enjoying his sudden surge to prominence.
