The word "genuis" is banded about with too much ease these days - but Seve was a genuine golfing genius, and we may never see his like again.

Although let's not write his obituary just yet - I'd never bet against him in anything.

"i hate cancer."

In other news, penfold ace reveals that he likes Christmas and chocolate, dislikes wasps, and expects the next Pope to be appointed from the ranks of the Catholic faithful.

Remember, tumours don't have to be cancerous, and aren't always malignant. Many are operable, and they won't know exactly what the situation is until they've had a chance to get at it. Fingers crossed.

gary,

my wife's best mate was diagnosed with a brain tumour in may. It's her funeral tomorrow and she died a skeleton in a nappy.Cancer is a horrible remorseless illness which strips it's victims of their lives and their dignity and i hate what i've seen it do to people. She was 37 and leaves two little boys aged 5 and 7.

My son was was diagnosed with a brain tumour, aged two, four years ago and i've seen enough ghostly looking kids wheeling their treatment vessels around to last me a lifetime.

You're right, tumours don't have to be cancerous but there again, they don't need to be if they're in the brain because if they can't stop them growing, they'll kill you anyway.

penfold ace, I'm really sorry if I caused you offence, I didn't know about your son. I was really only agreeing with you in that almost everybody has a personal connection with cancer in some form: it took my godmother and my wife's mother, both in their 40s, slowly and painfully. It has to be the worst nightmare in that it can strike any time, whatever age you are and however well you look after yourself.

I hope that Seve's tumour proves to be operable and benign, but I hope even more that your son is doing well. I too have watched young children dear to me suffer terrible illness - my two nieces died aged 2 and 3, of a metabolic illness - and there's nothing in the world more heartbreaking. All the best.
