ok right my girl friend has decided to take an intrest in golf with me. and im going to teach her how to play.

i think i know enough to teach her to be able to hit the ball, though shes bloddy left handed its so confusuing, and talk about hard to get left hand girls clubs, i found one a 5 wood in a bargin bucket for a tenner.

im trying to teach her properly from the start so she gets no bad habits, teaching her the fundementals first.

so far in about an hour of teachgin i havent put a ball infront of her yet and we have only got as far as the backswing, she finds it hard from keeping her right arm from collapsing, but other that that shes looking good, goign to start with the 9-3 first, and only let her hit a ball when she can swing properly.

any advice on keeping it fun and not frustrating? dont say go to a pro cause i aint spending 40 quid an hour on lessons that would be pointless at this time.

EeRM,I can think of lots of things that would be more fun and less frustrating than trying to teach your bird how to swing,...........but then again

Big mistake there fella whilst your golfing she should be at the bottom of the garden with a mouthful of pegs in her mouth, cooking your dinner, looking after the kids, washing the car. walking the dog and getting ready to generally pamper you on your return.

Then again why should she enjoy herself whilst we are out there getting wet & pee'd off with our crap swing

Hope she enjoys the greatest game in the world and kicks your ass 

Brave man. I taught my missus to play and it aged me. 

I wouldn't hold off hitting balls, its a game of hitting things, not so much swinging things.

My advice would be to get her to try and make a swishing sound. The sound of clubhead speed. Don't worry about how she does it right now, but unless she can get that club to swish and recognise the sound and feel she'll never hit, but only place it.

Seriouly though as Creo said Brave man, 

My wife decided she wanted to play golf a few years ago and tagged along down the range and a local pitch and putt course with me.

After about 2 weeks hitting balls on the range (badly) she announced that she was ready to venture out on the course!

about 3 holes in we had let 5 groups play through and everytime anybody came within 50ft or appeared to look in our direction she'd stop and wait til they either looked away or were far enough away. stating she was too embarassed to let anyone see her hit the ball! (with good reason I may add)

she kept this up for a couple of weeks and then she decided to buy a set of clubs?

MY GOD if you think women spends a long time chosing handbags to match their shoes, just think how long it took for her to pick her golf bag/shoe combination

We plumped for Mizuno tavas Irons and she played 3 further games before deciding that it wasn't for her and gave up! (much to my happiness and sanity)

When I started I was advised to get a club or shaft with a grip on it and carry it around of an evening when in the house. That way I practiced my grip for hours and hours.

Getting the grip correct is absolutely essential IMO.

23rd is right about the SWOOSH. Most women lack the swing spped to play half decent.

Another thing you could do to keep her interested is get her down your club and practice some putting a chipping. Remember the short game is at least half your shots and yet we spend all of this time getting the full swing correct. Someone who can chip and putt will never be a bad golfer.

By practicing her short game she will see immediate results and enjoy the practice.

for the left/right problem, just stand in front of her and show her what you mean, she only has to mirror you then - it worked for Phat Phil Mickleson.

we went down the range and she did brilliantly her first swing she hit he ball : and the best shot got it in the air and got to he 100 yard flag she had a few misses and some clangers in to the golf range wall but shes well happy.

just need her to put a bit more speed into it.

I've noticed that most female golfers have a relatively slow swing - it doesn't seem to stop the pros from achieving huge distances off the tee !

theres slow and theres slow i could catch her club in my hand at impact and it wouldnt hurt.

i was teaching her about weight shift today and bought her a 9 iron, i couldnt belive it when she hit the 5 wood about 125 yards all carry heheshame it was a bit of a push.

shes a hving a bit of troubel with the hip rotation she actually doing a pirot and spinning right around after impact at the mo
