GM's "Mary" will be very proud of Steve's achievements this year, He's leading the Jamega Tour Order of Merit going into the Jamega "Tour Championship", after his latest win at Cumberwell Park. Steve has also qualified for the next stage of the EUROPEAN TOUR Qualifying School. I wish him good fortune through the next two stages. I caddied for my son when he played with Steve on the Europro Tour, he really is a good guy, so watch out for him. Chip

 Cheers guys.  Steve does give me free lessons.  Unfortunately the golfing "gene" did not come from me - as anybody who has seen me swing a club will testify.  Ian - Jamega Tour are at Bowood on Tues/Wed. As their website says: "saving the best until last"  I will of course give Steve the benefit of my experience, I managed 4 points when I played there with the Shamblers.  Tour school is very nerve wracking (for me) - so will be chewing my nails from 5th November.

I wondered what the "Tour" markings on the fairways were for that appeared this weekend! Course is in great shape - greens are spot on. I am just back from La Cala in Spain where the EuroPro Tour was - Bowood is in miles better condition. (anyone see it on Sky last week? - lots of patches on greens!) Shame, I am in Newport on Tuesday/Wednesday so will not be able to look in (unless diary changes. Steve has played there enough times to know where to attack and where not to! He'll do fine!

Ian, The "tour markings" are for the yardage books. The players get yardage books which show the distances from each mark to the front of the green. eg. "white spot - 165 to fog, then the next may be yellow triangle 108 to fog" In addition to the "spots" all distances from course features will have distances shown as well. ie. bunkers, ditches, etc. The players also get "pin sheets" which tells them how far on the green the hole is and how far from the nearest side. eg. "12/8R" hole is 12 yards on and 8 from the right edge. Thats why you see the players and caddies studying the books so much. Chip
