Has anyone had any problems with the finish of these irons? I recently bought a set and although I am very pleased with the clubs the silver paint on the back of the irons have begun to peel away. They have gone back to Mizuno who claim there is nothing wrong with them and it is normal wear and tear (even though they are only 6 months old and I use the club face to hit the ball not the cavity!!)
Mizuno claim that they have sold thousands of sets with no problems. Have I just got a bad set or has anyone else had this problem?

Cant really say more on them as i'm playing with mine for a short period only. They seem pretty good to me . No peeling off as far as i can see.
Unlucky set maybe.

At the end of the day if this is happening to your clubs and you are unhappy with the finish of them then Mizuno should do something about them, if they are the quality company they claim to be.

Thanks Ste, I agree but they don't seem too bothered. They say my only option is to pay for an independant assessment which if found in my favour they will be liable for any expenses. However as it is only cosmetic I not sure if I want to go to all the bother! However if I was Garcia or Els I bet they would change them pretty quick!

Your problem has been noted.

The head is entirely chromed, so the paint peel will not effect the performance in anyway (paint is applied after the chrome).

Please bear with me while i look into this.

Thanks,

David Matthews, Mizuno

Alex, I have been playing Mizuno Comp EZ forged irons, the predecessor of MX 20's and the metallic silver paint in the cavity does wear off (rather than peel) quite quickly.
However, after 4 years use they still look good overall, just well used - an improvement on shiny new, in my opinion.

Thanks Alan, glad to know that it has happened to someone else. I know that it is only cosmetic and the clubs are great to play with but why bother spraying with silver paint if it just comes off - just leave the clibs with a chrome finish.

Alex

The paint in the back of our forged irons, does suffer from wear and tear.

Over time it will scuff and chip as your irons knock together in the bag.

Our forged irons are soft and therefore do age more visibly than harder cast irons which are durable and resiliant.

The forged irons can dent, mark, rust and suffer from paint scrapes. Unfortunately it is a trade off from the feel, softness and precision that they deliver on the golf course.

Some golfers like the fact that forged irons age. Others don't.

We try to stress that our forged irons will mark over time on the care tag that is displayed with each set.

Hopefully now that you know the set is fully chromed underneath, you'll be happier that the build and play quality is not affected.

You're right that an option is to eliminate paint altogether, but most golfers prefer the look as it is, even with the wear and tear.

Hopefully the look will grow on you.

Thanks,

David - Mizuno
