doing well with my swing but how could it be better?

my £0.02

Right leg straightens a little, which promotes the left to raise of the floor, just try and hold the flex a little more in the right leg. I have found it helps you coil more against the left side then giving a little extra power and distance.

but still a nice swing, keep up the goodwork!

Those are all abbreviated punch type shots, not full swings as such.  For an 8I the trajectory should be much higher, and the ball is keeping low and strongly drawing or blocking to the right due to the punch action. You need to get the swing fuller, more rounded, with more wrist cock and a wider and longer follow through.

What do you play off, Ian, and is this a full swing for you?
It's so hard to tell with these videos as you can't freeze them properly, but it looks like your hands are a little overactive taking it back so you take it back too far inside. Its a common fault, but easiyl corrected. Just think of keeping the clubhead outside the hands on the takeaway.

without sounding harsh...

where is the other half of the swing? Is this your normal swing? Or were you playing a punch shot?

Ian,

Don't be disheartened by above comments. They are a harsh lot. I cannot disagree with the short punchy swing assessment though.

But if it works for you, it works. What is your handicap ? I bet that swing could play to low teens maybe even high single figures.

But I suspect it would not get you down to cat 1. But in reality a consistent, repeatable swing is what gets you playing well and I could see that swing being quite repeatable.

Ian plays off 22 with his Zach Johnson backswing. Keep up the work Ian!

i agree pengwyn,

it looks very straightforward and consistent-good work ian!

My comment was only a little thing, but it's quite important to get the club up on plane. As someones who's always struggledwith this move I know it's hard to be consistant with it in there.

Apart from that I like it. Compact and powerful looking with good balance.

IMHO, strong right-hand grip (hand erring toward underneath the grip) looks like it helps deliver a draw trajectory. But I bet it promotes a big hook when you're timing's off. Swing looks nice and compact but I'd be inclined to try to neutralise the right hand a little, Ian, to make it (as 23 suggests) a little less active. Bit of exaggerated Jack Nicklaus in the head turn at address - no bad thing if it works for you.

Ian - it looks  like your feet are across the line pointing right of target and your pointing the club at the flag - Is that correct - do you normally do that? That would promote a draw as well.

Did you reach the green that you were aiming at? Is it still 150 odd yards?

hi guys
thanks for your responses
need to readdress grip issue as i hadnt noticed it had become that strong,
think my swing will have to be short as old back injury wont allow any more.

mas the green is at 150yd still
