Was a nice day the other day, so got out in the garden with the net and hit a few on camera, more to check my swing myself, but also to share. Movement not great, I move my left foot on impact, (it actually lifts), raise my back a bit, don't swing on an even plane, but it's correcting these things which I'm finding tricky. There was a time when I was consistent with my slice, and wouldn't hit it far at all. Now I'm hitting it a lot further, but I have no idea where it's going to go. Even with my short irons, which used to be pretty solid. Anyway, see what you think...? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UdWJOe5EWUs

Hi Tim, I'll tell you what I see, mate. firstly you've got a pretty good swing to work with there. you have a common problem where your hands are too active too soon. This whips the club inside quickly meaning you have to be very active to re-route it from 9 o'clock. Work on keeping your clubhead outside your hands on the way back, or keeping the back of your left hand facing out in front of you up to 9 o'clock. DTL you can see your weight is too much on your heels and you're a little too close to the ball. This means you have to keep your chin down a little too much - lift it so your shoulder can turn better. give yourself a little more room and get your weight a little forward on the balls. Get someone to stand in front of you whilst you set-up. I'd bet my life they could unbalance you with just a little push. Other than that it's great. Lots of CHS and good leg action.

just bend your knee's a bit more and turn your shoulders a bit more on the top of your swing, if you think you have lost some distance its probally because you dont turn your shoulders that much

Thanks guys, that's some good stuff to work on. I could see I'm swinging the head inside on take-back, but think this is quite new. I also go from being too close, weight on my heels, to too near and weight too much on my toes. That's why I'm so erratic at the moment. I guess I tend to put the ball down, stand about where I think is right, and adjust my stance accordingly as I put my club down. I think you can see it in the DLT shots. The ball's not always in the same place on my "mat", but I don't move my feet that much. Need to get into a better habit, of putting my club there first, then getting my feet into position. (At the moment I'm not sure if I'd rather go back to when I was hitting pretty much everything (except my driver) straight, but short, or being where I am now, hitting everything a lot further, but rarely straight. I'm certainly not scoring any better now as I was when I first started playing again last year. I'm actually mostly worse! )

Have to agree with Adam, his shoulders turn is definitely a full one if anything it goes past 90*, however the club is not getting to parallell at the top so i would suggest probably a little more wrist cock to enable to get parallell to the target at the top of the backswing. Also agree with 23rd re your stance you definitely need a little more tilt from the hips towards the ball, you are too vertical at present, add to that a bit more knee flex for support and you will be in a very athletic position and ready to go. just my £0.02

Thats it. Once I'm well I'm going for my coaching diploma.

Hi, Not plugging here, but have you seen Webgolfcoach.com. You can send this video to them and then the professional PGA coaches will review your swing. While its not immediate coaching, the video lesson I got back was great and with some drill videos added on, is slowly helping. If you have limited time it may be worth checking them out.

"I could see I'm swinging the head inside on take-back, but think this is quite new." This is a very familiar sight to me as it's something I've struggled with. I think you do exactly the same thing as me as well! It's not that you take the club too far inside with your arms as such, but that you over rotate your forearms swinging the club open and thus appearing very laid off all through the backswing. Hard to fix this mentally in my experience, until I found this vid: http://golfbydesign.net/news/2008/3/3/jeff-ritter-video-faults-and-fixes-backswing-laid-off Try it see what you think! Chris P.S. Overall I think you have a pretty good swing there... relax and learn how to score well and it will come...

Thanks for that link Chris, what that bloke says makes sense, so I'll give that a try.

Tom, Let me start by saying that is a pretty nice swing. I don't see any of the massive flaws that you often see on the golf course. I don't have a trained eye and I am certainly not massively knowledgable in the swing but what I do know is that 23rd man is usually right on these things. Thanks largely to his advice I am striking the ball better than I ever have. So if I was you I would listen to what he says. Ironically thanks to his advice my handicap will be wizzing away from his this year (I hope, fingers crossed). I just hope he gets well soon and starts that teaching diploma soon because IMO he would be bloody good at it. One word of advice from me - working on the club takeaway, less inside with less arm rotation has helped me massively, but please expect the backswing to be shorter and take less time. Don't be worried though because the improved strike increases distance and gives you more control. Good luck.

There's definitely not enough divots out of that lawn. I have a job to find a good bit of grass to chip from these days.

The lawn's messed up enough from the dog piddling all over it, I don't want to go taking big chunks out of it too!
