Hi, just to make some people feel better about their swings have a look at my awful attempt at hitting an 8 iron! Now I'm pretty sure people will say my main problem is standing like a hunchback! not sure while i lean so far over. My friend thought my clubs might be too short but I'm only 5'11" do i just need to stand closer to the ball?? I tried this at the range but it just didnt feel right! My shots are pretty good when i get it right, i just tend to top the ball a lot. Any advice on where to start..... P.S I've had one lesson ages ago but havent played for a year due to a knee reconstruction. My plan is to hit the range hard over the winter and rebuild by swing entirely! Currently I'm just enjoying my last few weeks at uni with my friends before graduating!

Sam You don't stand like a hunchback, just squat over the ball far to much, which in turn causes a very flat swing. Now I'm not sure if this is due to your knee problem, but if not you must stand up to the ball. Watch video's of some good players and compere them to your own. Perhaps you crouch because your not confident of hitting the ball cleanly?

The lie of the club looks a bit flat. That could be why you're squatting so much.

i dont think its because of my knee, so do you think i need to straighten my legs and lean forward more?? or stand closer to the ball? I think your onto something about not striking it cleanly, i think because i top the ball a lot (due to lifting my head up!) i probabily try to get under the ball too much which might cause the crouching

You certainly need to straighten your knees, but you you seem to be leaning forward enough already. After reading Reckless's post it does seem that they do have a flat lie, perhaps your adapting your swing to suit your clubs. Suggest you compare them with a 'standard set' to see if they are a couple of degrees flat. The toe of the club should be slightly off the ground at address to accomadate the flex of the shaft on the downswing
