Hi there, We're heading to Celtic Manor on Sunday to stay over and play the Montgomerie course on Monday. On the way down we're looking to play another course, en route or in the vicinity. Currently looking at Alice Springs in Monmouth. It looks good and the reviews seem very favourable. Does anyone have any experience of the course or know of any other gems in the area? I've looked at Rolls Of Monmouth but can't get on and Ross on Wye also on the list. Any thoughts? Cheers for the help.

Scott about 3-4 miles from Alice Springs, just outside Usk is Woodlake Park, far far better than Alice Springs. If you stick with Alice springs, there are 2 courses there, the Usk and Monnow, cant remember which is which, but the one that starts with the par 4, is imo the better of the 2 (the other starts with a par 3). The welcome is always good at Alice Springs, and the food was good and reasonably priced, but i would always choose Woodlake first. Enjoy your weekend Alan

We had a 36 hole society day there couple of weeks ago. Nice place, some interesting holes. The course thats starts with a par 4 I thought was better too. We paid £50 for 36, bacon roll, coffee sandwich and chips at lunch and a 2 course meal in everning. Spot on!

Browndogg - do you mean Alioce Springs or Woodlake Park? Alan, cheers for input. I did look at Woodlake but it just doesn't inspire from what you can see on their website. But you're right, loads of people seem to be really impressed so maybe the shots on the site don't do it justice.

Chaps - couldn't get in at Woodlake. Had a look around and there was Llanwern and Green Meadow. Went for Green Meadow in the end. Did us a good deal and other player reports look pretty good - http://www.greenmeadowgolf.com/ Anyone played it?

Scott, yes i've played Greenmeadow, and really enjoyed it. dont be deterred by the plain par 3 start, it does get better, the other par 3's are super holes, not overlong which is why i enjoyed it. enjoy your weekend Alan
