Hi all,

I recently reshafted my nike sumo sq (my first time) and now despite my best efforts, it has developed a rattle in the head. I know its a blob of epoxy that was probably sat on the end of the shaft when I fitted it and snapped off at the first impact, you live and learn eh.. Ive read up on the hairdryer method and injecting sticky stuff etc.

Anyway, my plan is to drill a hole somewhere in the head big enough for the end of a soldering iron and melt it out, sort of thing. My question is if anyone can help is:-

Is the bottom titanium? Will it drill anyway?... Will a little hole affect the physical properties of the head?... Where should I drill it? any other help would be greatly recieved.

ps. I aint pulling the shaft again (too scary!!)

 Thanx F

Yes you can drill a hole. That is the usual way to inject Rattlestop (the sticky stuff), since not all hosels allow you to put it in there. Although with the Rattlestop you need to then seal the hole.

One thing that I'm curious about......when you poke a soldering iron in through the hole, how are you going to assure that the object that is rattling around is going to make contact with the soldering iron?  And another thing - what temperature does the soldering iron reach? - 'cos the melt temperature of epoxy (depending on which one you used) can be 250-300°C.

I really would suggest the Rattlestop liquid as the right way to fix this. Or take it to a club-builder and spend a few quid getting it fixed properly.

Hi Fuzzy, I had a similar problem with my driver, see thread. I floated the driver in a bucket of boiling water and this solved the problem.

Thanx chaps, I have already fixed it! The little black tab thing at the back of the club lifts up "with gentle persuasion", I then drilled a 8mm hole and rattled out a little red bung. Not sure what this was exactly, stuck the tab back down with some decent double sided tape, presto! no visable damage, no more rattle, no more p*ss taking from playing partners. ) Sorry BC, I did see the thread but after I'd already posted, Duh!
