Just had my driver back, got it shortened and spined and flo'd.I asked for the swing weight to be kept the same as I liked the feel. The result is two strips of lead tape on my driver sole,is this normal as it is a bit of an eyesore? I thought the weight was added to the head or into the shaft and corked.
It's not normal, they should have asked you your preference at the outset. There may be a good reason for it. An example would be that the added weight/cork (if done internally with powder/cork of course) would have extended above the top of the hosel which can lead to shaft failure especially on the lightweight thinwalled graphite shafts. But you should have been asked your preference.
thought as much, will try it out and see what it's like with and without the tape. Certainly will not use again as I can also see the glue on the ferrule, even I can do that not to show the glue.Recommended on here as well.Maybe I'll contact him to get it redone.
Many golfers like to retain the swing weight of their former driver, and why not?
The simplest and neatest solution is to purchase a Ralph Maltby driver head. Each head has a centre positioned changeable weight which varies from 2g to 14g and which can be changed within seconds with the tool which accompanies each head.
Such assumes of course that the reverse i.e. counterbalancing (weight placed in the butt of the shaft) is not required.
Sadly though RM made his last classic driver head in 2007. His latest versions look a bit like the Callaway - something out of the Starship Enterprise. But, I would guess that after 40 years of designing heads he had finally got it right by 2007.
