Today I took the family out for a meal, strategically positioned next to a driving range. After a bite to eat I made the excuse to 'try' some new clubs in an attempt to find my new score lowering magic wand. Anyway long story short I was wanting to try different shafts and lofts on the range, and eventually I was taken into a small dingy room but big enough to swing a club. It was their fitting room and they were going to measure my swing etc and get me the right type of club! I couldn't wait, I was salivating at getting the perfect club.

After a long search it was narrowed down to one. the shape, the carry everything on the computer looked perfect... as I reached for my credit card I said just to be on the safe side I'll hit some on the range.

As I teed it up I knew what to expect, a penetrating ball flight with a touch of fade with the ball dropping just before the exterior fence. So I wound it up and unleashed... bang banana fade, reload... same againm tried my 'draw' shot which usually results in a snap hook... slice! no matter what I tried to do I sliced the blooming thing!

So I put my credit card away... but I did find another club I quite liked the Burner 09... just got to arrange a test drive now

Fitting computers? No theyre Flattering computers!

Pooter said I was hitting a 6 iron 195 - yeah right! On the course I hit 155 average so a 25% gain in yardage was impossible, but the idiotic, spotty teenager wasn't willing to accept that computers can ever be wrong!

It's got to be a combination of outdoor hitting and computer feedback for the ultimate results.

I guess the ideal scenario is to narrow it down to a couple or three that are your favourites on the range and then let the computer tell you which one gives the best launch conditions IF they are too similar to distinguish with the naked eye.

Love the computers, i was hitting a 6iron 190 and my 12 year old brother was carrying a 5 wood 200yds. My irons were beautiful high shots with a suggestion of draw and my brothers were straight - and i mean NASA-straight.

I said to the guy 'that 6 iron is a good 25yds longer than normal.' he was like 'yeah with these clubs you would expect that sort of extra length.' (i was going from callaway x12's to X-tours)

I don't know what it is call.. but I had a driver fitting on the range..with a launch monitor...

So it gave me the stat and I can see the ball flight all at the same time.

Bandido, I have seen the fitting room syndrome before!! Actually I used to work for AG.. and people would come into the fitting room and give it the perfect swing... then take it out on the range and do all sort with it...

I believe that when you are out there on the range...people try to smash the living daylight out if it....

Anyway good luck with the burner 09

Tried a launch monitor thingy at the range using my own driver in comparison with the ones the rep had for sale. According to the stats I was hitting my own driver just over 200 yards and the shiny new Taylor Made Burner well over 240.

If I hadn't trusted my own eyesight I may have ended up shelling out over 200 notes.

Yeah there was possibly some of that on some shots but on the whole it was my normal swing, never felt so disapointed! Well maybe if the Toon go down or my lad starts supporting the Mackems will I ever feel such an empty feeling

Beware launch monitors. Their sole purpose is to flog you crap that doesnt work for you, based on some numbers the seller picks from the display of many numbers. In the readout of several facets of your swing the seller will select which number is "better" using the demo driver and ignore all the rest.
