i have a set of Ping G10 irons with the stiff AWT steel shafts on Ping web site it states these shafts have a torque of 1.6 deg weight 106 gram and are suitable for swing speeds from 76 to 85 ish.
now i had a set of callaway x20's before this set with the uniflex shafts which the only info i can find is that they are low torque !
do you think there is much of a difference between the 2 shafts ?
Uniflex A shaft designed to fit a wide range of golfers. The shaft is created to work with swing speeds of 75-95 MPH. This covers most golfers. The Uniflex (or one flex) has worked very well for Callaway for years in both the Memphis "10" shaft that came out back in the mid 1990's all the way to the Constant Weight Steel Uniflex that comes in the most current product lines. It is a lightweight shaft with a mid-kick point.
I had x20s with the uniflex shaft and found the flight very 'ballooning'; sold them on ebay and bought same clubs with project X (5.5) shafts. Completely different clubs, flight much more penetrating and dispersion very good.
As others have said, I might have just got lucky and found a shaft that suits my swing. I think 5.5 is supposed to be stiff-ish, perhaps not quite as stiff as DG S300? I hit my 7 iron about 155.
Lol i had some x20's, when i put em on the frequncy thingy only 2 shafts were the same flex, they were all over the place.... and another thing, my 9 iron was 4 degree's strong!
Bear in mind shaft flex qualifications are taken at the butt end...all you are measuring is the butt flex...to determine true shaft characteristics, the flex needs to be identified at every 6" beam length.
Also, not only is there no industry standard on classifications, there is no standard within each mfg...meaning shaft flex is different from model to model within the same manufacturer.
