I am thinking about buying some clone golf clubs for my son and would like to hear any good reviews anyone has on any particular brands. I know there is alot to choose from on the market today.

Couldn't really recommend a brand of clones, but I can recommend a retailer.

Try Diamond Tour Golf in the States. They built my new clubs (not clones) for me and did a really excellent job. They have a pretty good selection of club heads and a huge selection of shafts and grips.

Their qiality is very high and their customer service is EXCELLENT.

2 Examples:
When they sent me my new set, they forgot to include the driver headcover. When I emailed them about this, they sent the headcover the same day PLUS a FREE gap wedge (same brand, same shaft, same grip as the wedges I bought from them).

I had my clubs made with Winn grips. I noticed some early wear on the grips and told Winn about this, also told Diamond Tour, who, even though it wasn't their fault, immediately offered me a full set of new grips at no charge. Still waiting to hear from Winn though !!!

I would never buy clones as they are made only to resenble the club they are 'cloning' and not to play like it. How do I know.. well I was sold a fake Callaway 3 wood off Ebay. I got my money back but the club was virtually unplayable. Head & swing weight were way to heavy. The materials used were cr@p and the shaft was incorrect flex. Not the way to introduce someone to the game - which is hard enough as it is.

Far better to go for a top quality products like SMT, Snake Eyes.. plenty to choose from.. which are built to the highest standards.. as you're not paying huge corporate marketing budgets when paying for the equipment. Also clones are not any cheaper when compared.

To get the terminology right, "clones" are clubs that copy some technical or visual aspect of a "real" club, often with some real technical benefit (e.g. moveable weight technology) but are not intended to deceive. What Just Pured bought is a "fake".
There are some decent clones, but without the opportunity to try them, the odds are probably poor of getting something that is really good.
Better to go to a shop and get some advice/guideance towards a cheaper beginner/improver set (e.g. Ram) plus a chance to feel/try.
Can't really see any benefit in going for clones unless you are 100% certain of them.
Can recommend the Snake Eyes Pythons. My 9 year old gets on really well with his set and they have had rave reviews. There is an ebay trader (search the golf section on "snake" and then scoot down to the very bottom to the listing of ebay traders) who sells at decent prices and could probably offer a set with shaft lengths and flex to suit (I have no link to this trader).
Or try Shaun at SMT. He may be able to build the same (I got the Grafalloy Attacklite A-flex shafts for my son's Pythons from Shaun, and he should be able to source the heads and build them to your spec').

Posted this a while back. May help.

If you cut a clone or a fake driver in half, which one would have the same technology inside as the ogiginal. Say for instance the inverted cone of TM drivers or the double face of others. ??

Why buy clones when you can buy the real thing at a good price from makers Such as Howson, Ram, Adams
Take this for exmple

Have a look at www.ukcustomgolf.com
I have bought some clubs from them and they are good.I have had a couple of pro's hit them and they didn't notice that much difference between the clones and the proper make.

For the price of a set of clone irons (e.g. £150-250) you could get a set of RAC OS's or something decent (got my RAC OS's new for £230 recently).
All clones offer is an economic way to get something built to a specific spec' (e.g. for a youngster as CHenry is seeking).
For a teenager I would actually suggest going for ladies clubs - you can pick up pukka marques cheap and the length and flex will suit.
Or maybe try Integra golf who sell clones such as Acer (various models such as the Callaway X-14/16/18 clones) and might build to spec'.
CHENRY: if you are interested, my son has his old set for sale (set of six irons, from 7 to Lob wedge, simply out-grown. In 8/10 condition (he keeps the headcovers on DURING a round!)). Custom-built Dynacraft PC3 heads with Apollo Shadow Ultralite shafts (ca. 50g in trimmed length - lightest on the market) and ultralite Winn grips. Would suit 7-12 year old depending on height. £90 incl the P&P. Can send more details (lengths etc) and photos if you are interested
