Hi...I'm a golfing beginner and am looking at getting a good set of clubs.Has anyone any views on these irons I am thinking of changing and these have caught my eye. I´m spanish and John Letters brand isn´t popular in Spain. I need some help. Thanks

Never tried the T7's but I bought the Trilogy T5's as my first set and have been really impressed.

I've thought of upgrading a few times but every time I demo a new set of irons they don't seem to be discernably better than my trusty T5's.

The John Letter's brand name has been taken over recently though and I don't know if the T7's were made by the original Scottish clubmakers (like the T5's) or the new company.

Letters announced they'd be releasing some T7's about a year before the takeover, but I don't know if these are the same model or not.

But I got some T4's as my first set, and I still have no desire to replace them.

Jesus, See if you can find yourself a set of T5s, they're hard to beat. I've never seen a T7, and never heard from anybody who has, so I can't comment on them (beyond the obvious that they're not made in Scotland anymore :( ). I've got a set of T5s and I'm considering buying another set while I can to use after I wear out the first set.

Thanks for your post...I´d like t5s but t7s include hibrids clubs and my golf don´t let me play the 3 and 4 iron club. This is the reason of my interest on t7s....If they have the same quality. Spain is diferent!!! but the people of golfmagic forums is quite nice...

I tried a T7 driver the other week - I went down to Direct Golf to try out a Cobra SZ440 but the guy down there gave me a T7 reg shaft to try against the Cobra with a stiff shaft.

The T7 is an easy to use club but didn't really challenge the Cobra in terms of feel and ball flight. One thing I didn't like was the grip - very thick and more reminiscent of a tennis racquet grip. I would imagine the irons will be of similar quality.

I'm fairly sure that Direct Golf now own Letters, explaining the guy in the shop pushing them, but I reckon if you shop around you'll get better for your money.

Andy: to be honest I was never impressed with Letters' woods and drivers before the takeover. I got them with my iron set, and I have now replaced them all.

The irons on the other hand were very good (T4's).

I wasn't that impressed wither, much preferred the Cobra (bargain for £80), used it for the first time on Sunday, but fogot the earplugs!

I remember thinking in the shop 'why has he singled out the T7 to compare to the Cobra out of all the other models available?' - fairly obvious really, they've just been told to try to sell them by head office!

Yes, DirectGolf will be trying to push the John Letters brand now.

It's the same when you buy Hi-Fi from Richer Sounds and the 'expert' salesman recommends Sherwood against Marantz!

Still, at least you tried it out for yourself and chose the one you liked. That way, you can't go wrong I guess.

When my dad went to get some new irons he asked to try the mizuno mx-900's but the guy in the DG forced some t5's in his hand for some reason. Shame my dad fell for the plot as his game has dissolved since.

I bought T5's last year, great clubs for the money (£200).
If you want hybrids in your set look at Adams Idea range (there's a review on the front page of this site). Adams seem to lead the way in that market.

Mr A Game... surely if the clubs were so bad that they'd ruin someone's game then he'd have noticed when he tested them?

Bad workman blames his tools and everything... if fitted correctly, the T5's couldn't ruin anyone's game if they had one to start with.

I agree Niblick, the T5's may not do anything to help someone's game, but wouldn't ruin it - anyone with a decent swing should be able to use any irons to a reasonable degree.

I don't play the 3 & 4 irons particularly well either but it doesn't detract from the fact that the T5's are great clubs for the money.

Just do what I've done and add a cheap 'rescue' to your set. I bought a 21* Howson GBH Assassin for less than £20 and tend to use that in place of my 3 or 4 iron at the moment.

Agree with Carona - the Howson rescues (although I think I have the GBH Attacker) are £20 and probably better than the Letters ones anyway.

A 21* and 24* should do the trick (as your 5 iron will be about 28* if the T4's are anything to go by).

Strangely, I've done the same. I've got a couple of Taylormade rescues instead of the T5 3 and 4 irons. There does seem a problem though since there seems to be a bit of a distance gap now between 4 and 5. Does anybody else find the flight with the T5 mi-irons maybe too high?
