I've managed to get myself a set off ebay for £100 with 5.0 rifles. Only 3mths old apparently so looking forward to getting my hands on them. Got to thinking about the bladed short irons. What are they like in the winter. Can see the advantage in the summer but are they prone to fat shots in the winter due to digging in.. anybody recommend some wedges as the set only goes to PW... not reading good reviews on the Mac wedges.SMT said about 40 per wedge with a bit of GM discount. they any good..?

My only cooment on them is that I thought that the 7 iron should also have been cavity rather than blade in the combo set. My mate has a set of the full baldes and depite being a relatively good golfer you can se that he would benefit from cavities in the longer irons.

The clubs have a great feel as you would expect from a forged club. I sold mine on as the rifles hit abit too high for me.

Clubs digging in is a feature of 1. how you hit it 2. how wide the sole is 3. how much bounce there is on the sole.

It not related to whether the clubs are cavity back or blade.

So if you are used to playing a club with a wide sole and lots of bounce eg Ping, Wilson Deep Red you MAY find that you take a deeper divot depending on how you swing.

Echo what jim says. 7 could have benefited wth being a cavity, ala Nike Pro Combo's which is why the PC's are currently getting extensive testing on course.

I'm pretty sure i'll go back to 1025's as considering all the iron sets i have/had, these are still the one's i played all my medals with.

I have SMT wedges and for me, they are spot on the bounce etc of 51 and 59 are perfect compliment to 1025's in my opin.

I've got a set (or two) of these. I've been playing them since last Winter and I don't recall them digging in any more than my previous set.
Yesterday I found out how soft they are though, I had to smash the 9 iron into a bank to extricate the ball. I've now got a small lump of rock embedded on the leading edge. :(
My plan is to Dremel the stone out and fill the hole with some of this miracle metal glue/putty stuff. Anyone done something similar?

Had the 1025C's and now have the 1025M's (reviews of both in the equipment section) and have found both sets to be excellent. The 1025M's don't dig in any more than the 1025C's. If I play the ball further back in my stance I take a deeper divot because of the change in the steepness of the golf swing that this setup adjustment causes.

They're like syrupy butter to play so just enjoy them. At £100 they're a steal, far better than MacGregor's subsequent forgings (which are harsh in comparison), and you'll get £100 for them back on eBay should you not like them.

Same here I use the 1025m muscle back blades and find them very forgiving, so much so I may even buy a spare set if I find one at the right price.

the CM version should be fine if your not adjusted to playing blades, I've tried them and they dont lack too much feel either in the long irons.
They have nice small heads and still have a pretty thin top line allowing you to shape shots if needed.

Im sure your going to love them ;)

played with the Mac's today for the 1st time an managed to get around in 93...but for a run of 3 holes in the back 9 where I managed to lose a ball on all 3 and carded a 7 and two 8's I would have broken 90 for the 1st time this year. Those high score's were purely down to getting off the tee or not as the case was. The clubs were excellent, especially from 150yds in and around the green. I think this could be the start of something special..

Great stuff mate, glad you like them. A real bargain.

2nd round with the mac's today hit 87...an if I tell you I putted like the headcover was on I wouldn't be exagerating(sp).. must have had 10 putts from inside 15ft that I left more than 2ft short..can't help thinking I was a hot putter away from breaking 80 today..game seems a lot easier since I changed irons..

Funny I was in Sports World yesterday and I noticed that these clubs have now dropped to £120. I knew from experience that these sets get mixed up so I checked the boxes. Not one single set complete except one set of left hand 455. One box was just a mixture of 6,7 and 9 irons which had obviously been taken from the rack and put in a box.

Given that this shop will find every excuse under the sun not to refund beware anybody buying from them.

Best set I found at least did all have rifle shafts it's just that some were rifles and some were rifle flighted.
