I currently have a Titleist 975 LFE driver and not getting on with the graphite shaft. It is stiff but still feels too unstable. I have been thinking of changing the shaft to a stiff steel like the rest of my clubs as get on so much better with them.

Just after some advice really and anything i should be careful of. Dont wont to ruin the driver!!

What do you guys think?

Why did you buy the Driver with that shaft in?

Getting the right shaft is absolutely imperative.
Go and see your pro who will advise you by asking whats going where and how.
My driving was fixed by a Proforce stiff but I believe stiff tipped{kickpoint}which stopped the head deflection IMHO.
I absolutely am nailing most drives like never before, more than likely tho is a swing imperfection which you should also see your pro?.

Andrei, cause i got on ok with it when i tried it but using it on a course is different than using on a range. IT was also very cheap and fitting a new shaft is still going to make it a cheap driver

Why is it different on a course than a range, have you 2 swings if you have it seems that could be your problem not the shaft!

I dont profess to be a good golfer Andrei but of course its different on course. You are using different balls, tees. On a range you are just firing straight down it where as on a course you need different alignments and set ups.

What do you go to the range for, to practice swing, technique, etc, if it`s different on the range than on the course you are wasting your time on the range.

Nick

Would totally recommend Graham Tonge at Frodsham golf club, he has done many re-shafts over time for me and quality is first class.
Give him a call, explain fully to him what you want, if possible book a slot with him so that he can check SS etc.
You will not be un-happy with the results.

Good Luck

Andrei, am not here to justify myself to you. Put thread on forum for some advice not criticism.
Yes you do practise technique etc but still not the same as actually on the course!!

Thanks Mark. Had a look at his site but a bit of a distance from me!

If you can`t take advice, that`s your problem,it doesn`t take a degree in rocket science to work out thta if you swing different on the range than on the course you are going to have problems.
If you change shafts what swing are you going to use?.
Why do you practice?.

you werent offering advice and never said i swing differently!!

Its like any sport, practise is totally different to competing. Any sportsmen/women know that!

Been gone, came back & the bickerin ain't stopped. BM has one swing all of the time until he comes out of the trees and on to the course then the BM has lots of swings.

Nicky boy, your mind now tells you the shaft ain't right so you got to change. Don't rise so easy and chill out playing with your shaft

Andy Pandy, your way or no way? flexibility man, means a lot in golf and you be stiffer than BM coat after a hairy night

boo boo be doo

Andrei, interesting is this another challenge match as a result of agressive/hostile postings? We were all booked up and you cancelled late on. Could be genuine or maybe this is how you get your kicks?

No thanks Andrei

Am not rising. Was just after some advice no useless comments

Alastair, i take it he has been like this before then?

Sometimes my practise time at the range is rubbish and I feel as though my next outing is going to be that way too, however much to my surprise - and against all odds - I eek out a good score on the course.

Sometimes I'll do so poorly on the course, I go to the range to practise the shot specifically that cost me the most strokes. I get there and lo-and-behold its the best shot I can play on the range!

Just one of those things I suppose. Mental yes, different swing maybe. You try not to have a different swing, but when you're out with friends or club members, there's always that different element than to practising on the range - I don't care how well you know them.

That's how the pro's do their thing, they can usually keep there stuff together no matter what the pressure. Scratch or low handicappers may well have the same attitude which obviously helps them maintain their rhythm etc.

Maybe the kit change (shaft or otherwise) will help, even if just for the mental side of things.

* with a little decorum *

Can see Andy's point, there is little reason to change a shaft unless it is failing to work, whenever used.
If a driver shaft works well for you on the range there is no reason that it shouldn't work on the course.

A lot of us have admitted to not being able to emulate the shots that we make in practice when it is over 18 holes on a golf course.
There is a difference - each shot on the course counts.

It is easy to forget the banana shots on the range when we nail one over the boundary fence.
