I currently play off 7 but since changing to Nike Pro Combos irons (custom fitted) last spring i have really struggled.I have had occasional lessons to check my swing & my pro says that looks ok so i can only think it's the irons. He thinks the regular speedstep shafts in them are useless! I like the look & feel of the Mizuno MP60's but part of me yearns to go back to hitting MacGregors as i used to hit the ball great with those. If they were good enough for Nicklaus then..... Are there any MacGregor irons i should consider alongside the Mizuno's?

MacGregor VIP irons are awesome, can't go wrong if they're fitted properly. There's a few varieties, too. Off of 7, you could pick and choose any good iron.

I play with MP60's, love 'em! Very forgiving and everyone here knows I'm a huge Mizuno fan. But the VIP's are as good as Mizuno's.

Also, how about ther Snake Eyes CB irons, classic looks, super feel, brilliant prices and custom fit only. They are better than you might think and can be adjusted for loft, lie, shaft, grip to whatever you like at no extra cost. Have a chat with Adam Bishop at Southfields Golf Range near Aylesbury/Thame area...if you're close enough that is. He does them all and has all the demo kit you'll ever wish for.

Parky - A question re the MP-60's. Would they suit the Nippon Pro 950GH Stiff steel shafts. I have these in my Srixon I-506's and really like them but fancy going back to Mizuno irons, particularly with the 3 & 4 MP Fli-Hi's. Would you recommend the same shafts in all or possibly the graphites in the Fli-Hi's.

Thanks,

Sean.

i have two sets of Macgregor m675s and love them. I'm sure you will hear loads of people singing Mizuno's praises as they play a certain set currently and have played another set before that and another set before that and so on....
go to American golf who carry both manufacturers and try them both and you wont be disappointed with the Macgregors

nike speedstep shafts play soft to flex. they are basically tx90's but playing softer. i have stiff speedsteps in pro combos and i like them. but the regulars are too soft to be of use to anyone but the slower swinger. IMHO.

i also have macg 1025cm's with rifle 5.0's which i like too, so much so that they are my gamers, but i prefer the long irons of the pro combos.

also waiting on ben hogans apex combos and j33's to be delivered and will be putting 950GH Nippos in either pro combo's or j33's.

So i'll know in a few weeks time which works best for me.

sean the 950gh are ideal for mizzies. i know kev has stiffs in his 67's and i bought my stiff pulls from mx25's. i'll be hitting kev's 67's tomorrow at the range.but i've hit 950gh regs in mp60's (belonging to cliche) and they are a nicely weighted shaft.

Poods, the mp60's will be the easiest switch as from address they are identical (almost) to pro combos. But i'd also think about getting the pro combos reshafted. They are very underated heads.

Great idea MisterS3!I'd never even considered reshafting the pro combos - you could be on to something there. The heads are very nice so maybe i should look to put better shafts in - perhaps rifle?

I have a set of MP60s in the classifieds still .....

The Nippon shafts are excellent - I almost went for a full change myself...until I found out the price! I forget what it was exactly, but Neil @ GolfSmith said something like £80 per shaft at cost!

Stick with Rifle or True Temper, they work fine!

Re; Fli Hi's - I've just got hold of the new 2-iron Fli Hi MP - it's super. I prefer the older Fli Hi CLK, but the new one is very good, too. If you're not a great long iron fan, these are super. And yes, try and stick with the same shaft.

Thanks Parky - What would be the nearest equivalents in the Rifle & True Temper to the Stiff Nippon 950GH?
