Steel into Titanium does go...

Finally collected my Miz Titanium driver retro fitted with a Royal Precision Rifle lite shaft 6.5 at swingweight D4 to marry against my style and tempo; club now measure 44inch instead of the previous 45. By the way, I've now got a ProLite 35+r for sale if anyone wants it.

Graham Tonge, the club builder who helped in this project thinks that £35 for this shaft is a fair price.

Anyway, I swung the club it a couple of times at the club makers but as yet haven't tried it on the course or range but can tell you this, the balance is sublime, service was outstanding I just can't wait to see how far I can cream that sucker!

I'll post again after I've been to the range...no chance of a game at the mo.

Let us know if you are up or down on distance with it Paul.

Well, so far so good. Lunchtime at the range hitting balls in conditions of -5 so the range balls felt like sodding rocks, bit like my own!

Never the less, once I'd sort of warmed up the ball had a much nicer trajectory and so far, more consistently down the middle of the fairway. I still blocked many to the right but not my usual banana shots or as many. The sound was interesting though, muted rather than the usual ting you get with titanium; guess this is down to the balls, weather and steel shaft rather than graphite?>?.

As for distance, this is difficult to tell given the cold and that the end of the range disappears from view but they looked like they were going at least an equal distance and perhaps on a warm day I reckon further.

So far the shaft is providing a touch more control and is keeping my pace more even with the slightly heavier club...I like it, very much.

Hopefully playing with Keith on Friday in the North East so will report back afterwards but for now I need a little more range time.

Thought you'd be interested.

Today played with Keith at Knotty Hill until rain stopped play.

For the most part the shaft played really well with the weakest link being me. On two occasions I tried to bludgeon the ball and ended up hitting the ball 25yrds left.

The rest I mostly found the fairway which was a greater success than normal.

Apart from those two wayward drives the rest of them went well and straight.

Pity the rain and freezing cold cut the round short. It was cold enough to freeze the balls off a brass monkey (or chimp).

Alan, how are you doing with the shortened shaft in your driver?

Keith, without doubt it has transformed my long game. At first (couple of months back) I thought it may just be in the mind as I was not striking the ball too badly anyway, it was just that every so often one got away from me, either right or left. There didn't seem to be any reason for it.
Just shortening the shaft has kept me in control of the clubhead - weird - but I seem to know exactly where it is in the swing. Difficult to say whether I've lost any distance but if I have I can live with it, as I still reached a 480 par 5 in two last week (wind behind)

This thread made me check out something today when playing.
My Saturday partner and I swapped drivers - he's thinking about shortening his shaft having seen a marked difference in my accuracy and I wanted to find out if I had lost distance.
The course was quiet and we were up with a fourball - no one behind so we took a couple of shots on two or three holes. One shot with our own driver and one with each others. He plays with a 45" Bimatrix shafted Adams titanium driver.

Surprisingly he hit my driver as far as his own and put it in the fairway each time.
I could not hit his driver as far as my Blue Fire and had less accuracy.

As they say - "Jobs a good 'un".

2nd outing with the newly steel shafted Ti driver and WOW!

This time rain did not stop play and so over 18 holes I used the driver on every hole excluding the par threes, or where the driver was the wrong club to choose. So, used it on 10 holes and apart from one duck hook, the rest ended on the fairway and long given the low temp.

This combo is great, I just hope it continues into the Summer.
