It is always advised that you should mark your ball to help with identification. A guy I used to play with scrawled his initials over 1" high on his ball. I don,t put any mark on mine, how do you mark your golf balls?

If you do not mark it how can you it is your ball in the rough. I have a red line all the way round it with a dot on one side.

I'm reminded of the Simpsons episode where Homer was designing a car. "You know those orange balls you put on your aerial, to find your car in a car park? Every car should have one of those!"
I've never really had a problem with it, but thinking once would be too many times, I've recently started scrawling my initials with a red CD marker pen.

Dagnabbit! Thought I was being different as I too use a red line to mark my ball - though not all the way round. My playing partners have been known to refer to my "Jamaican golfballs" after the ever popular Red Stripe lager (it's certainly popular with me, anyway!;-))

Two black dots either side of the ball number.

Saltire or a little devil depending on my mood

Every ball I play I mark with a smiley face (2 filled in dimples and a half crescent) under the ball make and number, always in red permanent pen. I find that way I know the balls mine, and picks my spirits up if I'm having a bad game.

All I could think of at the time as opposed to 'dots', I mark mine with the aries zodiac sign (rams horns) in alternate colours - Red, Blue, Green and Black so I always know what colour I'm hitting and what colour my prov is if req'd.

 'Stolen from the Range'

A black circle around each of the numbers on the ball, 1 or 2 depending on the make.
a red circle around both numbers wih a sharpie...
2 eyes with slanting eyebrows (a la "No Fear"). First got the idea using Nikes and used the 'swoosh' as a mouth under the eyes.
Sad I know but at least it's easily identifiable.

Black and red circles round the numbers
Now that iswhat I call unique judging by the numbers of balls I find marked that way
A fish symbol by the name of the ball.
"A fish symbol by the name of the ball."
Isn't there a penalty for involving an Outside Agency? ;-)
I have enough penalty shots on my scorecard as it is...Don't need any more!!
