Need to get a new sand wedge. Are currently using a friend-of-mine's. It's a Cleveland CG10 w/2 red dots. He has offered to sell it to me but feel that it hasn't got enough bounce.
Accept my friends offer or buy a different one? In the case of the latter - which one would you reccomend? Thanks again

Are you sure there is not enough bounce?
The only reason I ask is Cleveland CG10 56* 2 dots has 16* of bounce, I would have thought that was plenty.
What makes you think that you need more bounce?

Forgot to say its a 52 degree CG10. Is that maybe to little loft for a sand wedge? Feels like its digging too much...
Thanks

thats a gap wedge, sand wedges are usually 56* sometimes you can get 54's but they're not really as useful.
Ideally you need a sand wedge, a 52 won't really be the best option from sand of thick rough, they can still be used it's just not the best tool for the job.

Thanks Pete - usefull info from a realtively newbee. Can you reccommend a good 56 sand wedge - does not have to of the newest models, Thanks
|
 |
To be honest, Most wedges are personal preference really all of the Major OEM's make great wedges
Cleveland,Titleist,Mizuno ect
If you could find last years models then obviously it would be cheaper.

Sorry Pete Of-course I ment "for a newbee" - being me
|
 |
Or if you are on a tighter budget, MD golf or Progen make really good wedges at about half the price of the Major OEM's

The CG11 is well rated for us sand no-hopers. Has a wider sole than the CG10. My fave sand wedge is last year's Nike SV (not the newer "Tour" model) - has a nice dark finish and wider sole - I'm really get on well with mine after scratching around for ages trying to find one that worked for me. Can be had for £50 brand new now.

Following on from Andrew's comment about the Nike, I have the old Pro Combo Forged sand wedge. I have been using it for a couple of years now and have only failed to get out of a bunker once in all that time (and I have been in a few !). Keep an eye on ebay, you could pick up a bargain as these pop up quite regularly.

Thanks again guys Do you use one particular sand-wedge for all conditions or do you alter lets say if you have heavy sand after rain etc. Thanks again

 |
It depends on the lie. Plugged or buried I will always take my wedge, on compacted sand (oh how I love municipal courses) I will take whatever I am feeling confident with be it wedge or even at time a rescue club.

 Golf Dude
I switch my SW according to the type of sand, same loft but different bounce. 56* 14 for very soft sand and 56* 10 for medium sand, when the sand gets very compacted or thin I tend to use a 52 pitching wedge with about 6-8 degree bounce.
The Progens are very good value for money and I sold my Vokey after picking one up for just £18 on ebay. I now use a Makser C-forged which is virtually identical to the Progen.

 Golfdude
opening the face increases bounce, the GC10 with 2 red dots is medium bounce so unless you sand is light and fluffy it should be enough and from the fairway its a good compromise. This club should be fine, what makes you think you don't have enough bounce? before you part with cash I think you need to understand that first and work from there

 GolfDude,
52 degree is not lofted enough for your main sandwedge IMO. You realy need around 56 degree.
I would highly recommend the Nike SV tour, I obviously have one and love it.
James Livett....
you lucky bugger. I looked around for ages for a Nike pro combo SW to match my irons and couldn't find one. I settled on a Nike SV tour. Did you know Tiger still has the pro combo as his SW........... if it's good enough for him.......

Depending on the sand and lie i'll either use my Ping Tour 56/13 for very soft sand or a vokey 60/8 for very tight lies and hard sand. Covers pretty much all conditions i'll come up against. I've been playing in the practice bunker on the local course and the difference the wrong club can make is quite significant.

Pengwyn 12.9, the Tiger Woods comment was how it was sold to me (I bought the Cobra 2300I/M iron 18 months ago and that set is 3-PW).
Just bought the SV Tour 52*, a friend picked it up for me in Florida for the equivalent of £40.
If you know anyone headiing to the States this summer, with the rate of exchange as it is you can get some great deals.

Thanks again guys I will turn down my friend's offer and leave the options open.... Will be looking into getting one 56 for normal/light sand condition of 12-14 bounce And one for heavier sand with 6-8 bounce since I am currently living in Bangkok and there are a lot of heavy sand around these days....
