Convinced that I kept getting different web-fit recommendations from the Ping site, I tried the same measurements in the US and Eur site and sure enough the US site recommended a -0.25in shaft whereas the Eur site said Standard.

Anyone know if there's a reason for this?  Perhaps high handicappers in the US have a problems standing up straight??

Did it come up with a different colour code, ie. lie?

Maybe the American inch is slightly longer than the English inch??

Have asked Ping to clarify. Hopefully will get a response soon. ED

No, lie and grip colour codes were the same on both sites.  It will be interesting to see the response you get Bob.  I guess there's a slim chance my vital statistics make me some sort of US/UK ethnic anomaly!!

Hackenslash - you have mail. Ping has asked for your measurements so they can check if there's a glitch in the system. ED

Thanks Bob, I've forwarded the info to see if they can make anything of it.  Obvioulsy,  I wouldn't order custom-fitted clubs just from a static fit anyway, as it sort of defeats the object somewhat, but I expect some people do.

Would 0.25" make much of a difference?

To some people yes, to others they wouldn't even notice. The answer is it depends. There is no noticeable loss of distance in the irons until they are at least 1" shorter for most people, there will be a slight change in the lie angle/hand position, but the major difference may well be that with a slightly shorter shaft you hit the centre of the club more often. Which is a good thing.

Its [probably because the 6'1 foot is really about a 5'10 to us

It is my experience ;o)

not just the US that one, I've often been surprised by how much taller I am than people that claim to be my height or more, I'm 6ft 1. Once met a guy who said he was 6ft 2 and couldn't have been more than 5ft 10. He was adamant and told me I was 6ft 4, strange bloke!
