Hi guys, just a question on grip rejuvenation. I have Golf Pride dual compound grips on my irons, these were fitted by a Pro at Stadium Golf (as was) Huddersfield, about 9 months ago. Now it seems like the surface of the grips has become "hard" and in this wet weather it really is a struggle to hold on to the club. I have kept cleaning the grips every 2-3 rounds with warm soapy water but i just wondered if anyone out there knew of a secret potion that would restore the feel and soften the surface of the grips?

When you say you have been cleaning the grips what cleaning detergent have you been using? Detergent can break down rubber, changing it's properties and it sounds to me like this has happened here. Also direct sunlight can effect rubber quite rapidly, so if you have left them out in the conservatory to dry that could also have effected them. The pro's and magazines will tell you to change your grips every year which is just rediculous for the average amatuer. If I where you I would email Golf Pride and explain your predicament. They may be interested from a quality control side of things. MAke sure you tell them it is being discussed on a large golf forum and we are interested in their responce. If you are going to get new grips and Golf Pride won't replace them for free then I would strongly recommend Gamola Golf. I am not connected to them in any way. Get the grips off them and get your local Muni pro to fit them for £1 each club.

Hi Pengwyn 12.2, thanks for reply. I have been using Fairy liquid and warm water and one of the wife's washing up brushes, quick scrub, towel dry and then left to air off at room temp. I am a club player so, in our supposed summer last year I was playing twice a week, I would not have thought that would warrant changing grips every year, anyway to re grip 14 clubs with decent grips aint cheap. The grips are not perished or rotting like old rubber does, they just seem to have gone "hard" and lost any feel, difficult to explain really. I know you can get various grip cleaner from the likes of direct golf etc but will it soften the grips and bring back their feel, or, do any of you Alchemists out there know of a homemade concoction that would.

I dought the "grip cleaning"fluid is anything more than washing up liquid, maybe a washing powder type detergant but little more. Have you tried the Golf Pride website for advice. Maybe they have just perished, your right though, regripping ain't cheap.

Gripping is cheap if you do it yourself. It's so easy and rewarding.

You can get 9 Sharpros off Ebay for 15 quid INC TAPE! All you then need is some white spirit and a knife. Seriously, but some and teach yourself

Yep, what WB says. If *I* can fit grips any idiot can.

Cheers guys, I think I will have a bash at re- gripping come spring in time for the new season. Any body got any views on the new Winn grips as opposed to the more common rubber ones. Had a look at them on Sunday and they were definately tackier than yer golf pride grips. They seem to be more played in the States than over here, caught an episode of Whats in the Bag about Winn, that was before the sad demise of TGC. Look to be farly good gear but I've never played with em, anyone any thoughts or experience?

They may be tackier in the dry, but try a Win in the wet, and you will barely keep hold of it. They are the worst grips I have ever tried, yet some others love them. Best to try first. I now use Sharpro on my wedges and GP DD2 on the irons.
