I'm now a week into testing my new Geek, with Acculaunch X flec shaft.  I still get a really high ball flight that I want rid.  I can change the shaft to either a 65g Prolite 35 XStiff or a 75 UST V2 Stiff

Has anybody any experience of these.

My problem with the acculaunch is that I can't quite load it so i'm losing a noticable distance (10-15y carry).  I love the accuracy though and like the stiff feeling from the shaft through the swing.  I was hoping the heavy V2 in the lighter flex, or the lighter Xstiff Prolite might do the trick but i'm confused....

Cheers big Ears,

Which Acculaunch X Flex are you testing? Is it the 60, 70 or 80? There is quite a difference in their frequency profiles

I have both the Grafalloy Prolite 35 and The UST V2 on similar clubs,  the Graffaloy Prolite definitely gives the lower trajectory and is also gives a much more consistent shape of shot in my hands.

I play just above a regular and the Graffalloy regular is  a stiffer shaft than the UST regular.

The higher trajectory could be a function of you not being able to square the face consistently; I know I had that problem when I tried an x-flex. What I was effectively doing was body releasing to articificially square the face and hit the ball straight; the problem was that the clubface was playing with loads of loft as a result.

So I might just try a stiff and see; I know it sounds odd but it can happen.

Mr Ears,

You are rightly confused, shaft profiles can be a mine field, you really need to work backwards and forget the terminology x tiff, reg, or whatever, they are utterly meaningless.  As a GENERAL rule;

high swing speed = stiffer butt section

tempo  =  slower tempo suits softer mid section, higher tempo suits stiffer

fast transition = generally suits  stiffer profile particularly the butt

late release  =  generally suits stuffer tip.

On top of this you have to factor in your angle of attack. First thing I would do is have the head checked, my old DCT was a 10 and actually measured an 11.5, (hence why i went to an SMT).

Look at your overall swing,  how fast your transition is, what is your tempo and how early/late the release, this can help narrow it down.

Imho the Acculaunch plays soft to flex, I use the 80g in stiff in my Geek 3 wood for that very reason, I just get some extra height. The Evolution on the other hand is one beast of a shaft, very tip stiff and will flatten out trajectory for most players.

Excellent answers, I've absorbed all this and had a chat with Geoff at Bighitgolf, what we've settled on is a Prolite 35 X, This will require the headweight to be increased to maximise swingweight and should give me a better chance of loading the shaft.  But i do love the straight shots!

Just for info I currently use a Cleveland Ti460 with Stiff Fujikura stock shaft, goes for miles but if there is even a breath of headwind it's almost uncontrollable.  The Geek and Acculaunch 80 shaft brought it down to about 3/4 oon flight but still seemed a bit floaty and regularly dropped before the cleveland....

And Geoff's on holiday for 6 weeks, fingers crossed for the prolite!!...
