Hi Guys
I have a Taylormade 580 9.5 with the stock stiff shaft and hate it with a passion. I really have to put a slow smooth swing on it to get a good shot.
After reading many forums i've devloped the opinion that stock shafts are not very good but being based in Yorkshire I cant find anyone who can do a decent fitting.

Can anyone help with a recomendation ?

Currently the bad shot is a very high balloned shot that slices still carries over 250 though.
Good shots are also very every high.
7 iron carry is around 155
5 Iron carry is around 180
I have a fast swing around 100 MPH with a quick tempo and would be classed as a hitter rather than a swinger.

If anybody has any recomendations or knows any club fitters in Yorkshire please let me know.

Deano

Deano,

I use a Aldila NV 65 in my TM 540 and it is a superb combo. Bearing in mind your tempo though I would look at a heavier shaft and my suggestions, based on cost are as follows:

High end : Aldila NV 75 (stiff and NOT the 65)
Medium cost : Harmon GX (stiff GXS) or Grafalloy blue ( reg flex - tip trimmed 1/2 inch)
Low cost : Penley Stealth 70
Steel: Rifle 6.0

All of the graphite shafts are 70-80 grams which will help with your tempo and stop you from overswinging. I would strongly suggest that you stay in that weight range and avoid the 60-70 gram range.

The Harmon GXS is a sweet shaft and represents superb value for money and would be the best in terms of value for money. I just reshafted my 3 wood with the GXS and it really is superb. The NV is the best of the bunch, hands down - but it is expensive.

Oh, bear in mind that the TM 500 series takes a 0.350 tip diameter. If you buy a shaft with a 0.350 then that would be better otherwise you can buy one with a 0.335 tip and use a shim.

Hope this helps.

He is not in Yorkshire, but try Graham Tonge at Frodsham Golf Club (01928-739442).

I use him all the time.

Bobo,
Email me, I know quite a few guys in Yorkshire (bear in mind we live in a BIG County!) who will do a good job for you.

I would like to get my Fusion re-shafted but would like to try some shafts first just to make sure I got the right one. Anyone know of a builder in the South where I could try some out?

Tuffer,
I'm sorry I can't help you out with a club-maker in your area.
That's a good idea to try your options. Demo days are ideal for this 'task' (it's such hard work trying out new gear ;-) heheh) Callaway take masses of 'combinations' to their demos.
Try as many of the options as you can. The guys there are normally good golfers (low Am's or PGA Pros without an affiliation) Strike up a conversation with one of them, they're more than willing to talk, it's about golf for goodness sake, we all love talking golf ;-)
Tell him/her what you're doing and what you hope to achieve. I'm almost certain that they will know of a good fitter in your area. The worst thing that could happen is they offer to take it back to Callaway and reshaft it for you :-)
Good luck with the testing

Big swing speed demands the proforce stiff with stiff tip or the graffaloy blue stiff. You won't go wrong with either.Fact...
