After a new set of sticks

Just been to see my local pro who knows my swing inside out and he has recommended the following irons

Titleist 735 & 755

Mizuno MP 57 & MP60

Callaway X Forged

Nike CCI Forged

Taylormade R7 TP

Ping I10

Now I hit the ball really high so launching the ball is not a problem, handicap is 14,looking for a lower penatrating ball flight, will be fitted for the irons of course.

Any thoughts on any of these irons?

Get fitted as the shaft, length lie etc will make more difference than the actual clubhead

Was told that the Callaway are manufactureed by Miura so they should be quality also they can be custom fitted with a low launching shaft, and suprisingly easy on the eye.

I invested in some custom fit Titleist 755s last summer and it was a great decision.
The ball flight is lower and more penetrating and I also get more spin and control from the shorter irons.  They are silky soft to hit too giving you feedback on good and bad shots.   Well worth getting yourself down a custom fit centre and trying them out.

I have just been fitted for these http://www.kzgolf.com/layout9.asp?id=588&page=31398

and pick them up on Friday night.

I was fitted at http://www.appliedgolftechnology.co.uk/index.html

The thing about going here was you were able to fit & test loads of shafts instead of just OEM. They are also a fitting centre for Ping & Titleist.

play mp 60s myself they are belters for me mizuno make the best irons imo, but saying that i hit the ball very high myself even with stiff shafts and 1 deg delofted (fitted by mizuno).

Idid try my mates cal pro last week and couldnt believe how low i hit them standard lie ,

so in summery for me try them all and get fitted if you can on the ones you like the most but i bet the mizunoes are not far off the top of the list.

i will add be very carefull with ping irons i played them for years great irons good fitting service but from the i 3 irons on i seem to be a club short ie i hit 8 iron 150yrds with ping its a 7 pushing towards 6 hope this helps

Shaft choice will be at least 50% of the process. I.e. shaft choice will have a huge effect on trajectory.

Also thinnk about distance. I'm done with forged irons 'cos I'm tired of losing a club length. So the i10's and TM r7's may give you a disrance advantage.

john, did you pay for the custom fit?

i heard they dont custom fit for ping anymore. do you know different?

There was still a load of Ping clubs there and when I booked my time they did mention ping  &  Titleist.

The story I heard from someone was that Ping had invested heavily on the  custom fit carts at your local pro but that no one wanted to use them as they would rather  go to St Andrews and also that applied golf would be charging them as well.

It was £55.00 for the custom fit but if you buy the clubs this is deducted. So it is free if you intend to buy there stuff, which you would normally do as you would be hard pushed to get the equipment any where else. They also align the shaft for you as well.

thanks john, when did you go for your fitting? i spoke to my pro 2 weeks ago and he told me i couldnt get fitted for pings at st andrews as it was closed at the end of january.

i was told they were going to have ping custom fit vans on the road soon visiting several locations doing fittings but one of the vans got broken in to so this has held them up.

could you ask the guys at st andrews if they stil fit pings if you are going there to pick up your clubs from them. thanks

Dandy

Remember Mizuno have a custom fit centre based in Cumbernauld (assuming you're based around Aberdeen). I'm going there next month to get fitted for MP60's or 57's. Any pro or golf shop can set up the appointment and its free to use and no obligation to buy.

Not in the Aberdeen area now topslice in South Wales, although Bayern Munich are getting it tonight!!

Been to the range today for a couple of hours and this is my thoughts

Ping I10 - Awfull

Taylormade R7 TP,ok but no better than what I already have

Nike CCI, Heavy head and nice to hit but short

Callaway X Forged- nice to look at and feel, nice to hit but very short

Mizuno -MP 57 ok but nithing special

Titleist 735 - Nothing to dislike but nothing outstanding

Which leaves the Mizuno MP60 & Titlest 755,I tried both of these out and in the end the Titleist just won out although the MP60 is a mighty fine club. The Titleist was laser straight long and just felt right,so I'm off for a fitting next week.
