Yeah, due to rule changes this is possible now. I know they do this at fitting centers, but I've not hit any balls with these clubs. I wonder how it'd feel? It's a great idea though. Different loft and shape heads for different conditions.
There was a little bit on it in one of the golf mags this month i think. Taylormade have done it also with the R7 CGB Max Limited, http://www.todaysgolfer.co.uk/Golf/News/searchresults/January-08/TaylorMade-r7-CGB-MAX-Limited-driver/ and i believe Ping are going to do one but theirs will only be changeable at a fitting centre (i.e. you take it back to the shop to get the shaft swopped). RRP for the Callaway starts at £325 but depending on the shafts you want can go upwards very quickly. The Taylormade comes with 3 shafts if i recall, and RRP is £649!
Issue I see with this system is what happens if the conditions change during the day?
If its blowing a gale when you start so you 'plug in' the low launch shaft what happens if after 6 holes the wind disapears? Or you get a sudden 30min downpour and the fairways go from hard and bouncy to soft with no run out!
The other thing is some days my swing with the big stick is good and sometimes awful. Sometimes it changes during a round. What then? Do I stick a draw bias setup in the bag assuming I will be having and off day and be slicing it all day? Id think youd have to go hit 30 or 40 balls with your driver before each round to see how you were hitting it that day.
I also think people would use it a few times then give up. You know amaze there mates by switching shafts before each round then get bored and just stick with one setup and never change it.
At the risk of repeating a couple of threads already on GM, this to me smacks of the OEMs trying to come up with "new" and "inventive" products, but actually just producing gimmicks!
I'm just not convinced that the vast majority of these products make enough of a difference to justify me forking out my cash. Nowt wrong with my Ping G5 (and maybe a couple of lessons).
I agree with the reasons stated above also, so just think it's all a bit too much!
