I have been looking on the net at MD Superstrong irons, and they look pretty groovy, and dirt cheap on Ebay and yet all the reviews I read about them are very good. So what are they really like? They look quite blade-like, so are they designed for low handicappers? You can get MacGregor M455 or Mizuno MX-15 for about the same price, so has anyone tried all three? Opinions gratefully received.

My mate has them, and had them over 12 months now. Hes got the 3 wood and some superstrong wedges. He loves them and plays a bandit off 23. I`ve tried the wedges, and they feel ok. MD golf has some great stuff out at the moment. Go and try some, a few pro shops should stock them and see what you think.

I have had a set of the original superstrong forged irons for about four years and love them. I was playing off of 22 when I picked them up and had no real difficulties (except for a struggle with the 3 iron). Just through regular play (no practice) I have got to 13 with these irons. I have no desire to swap them for anything else. You are right about the prices on ebay and (approx 150 including delivery), I keep thinking to but myself a 'spare' set. I think the real strong point here is the mix of price/quality/performance.
I also have the EQL superstong fairways, with Graphalloy shafts and think they are truly amazing. I did write a comprehensive review but that disappeared somewhere in the GM Vaults.
I also have one of the EQL rescue clubs to replace my 3 iron and again am impressed.
I fully recommend these clubs, but do add a note of caution, they suit me perfectly they may not suit you.

Haven't tried the MD golf irons but they have a good reputation. I have a set of macgregor M565 irons that are very similar to the M455's and I really like them - they have quite a strong loft so I find I take 1 less club than I normally would. You may be able to get a set of M565's pretty cheap too.

I can also confirm that MD clubs are of a very high quality. If you are worried about the Superstrong being a bit unforgiving, see if you can try a set of MD Blackhawks. These are very forgiving and the set includes 2 hybrids instead of the 3 and 4 irons.

The superstrong originals have quite a small head compared others. Have a look for the superstrong EQL, slightly bigger head. The new models for this year look very good for the money. I have MD originals 2-PW, superstrong wedges. utility 18 and 21, 3wood and driver, all MD. I like what they do, quality heads, quality shafts, quality grips, small price.

Thanks for the input. I shall try and find somewhere that stocks them and have a swing, although they seem a bit harder to track down. I got the wife some M455s recently. They look great apart from the grips which are the most disgusting cheapo things I have ever seen. They look like a bit of foam with some tape wrapped around it, rather akin to water pipe cladding you might have in your loft. In fact, the outer layer on some of the grips pealed off when I took the cellophane off! I have had a few hits with them, great off the centre, but a lot of vibration if you get it wrong, more than I'm used to anyway.

Just seen the new CNC milled irons in golf mag and must say they do look good, Im looking to change my irons this year going over to a forged set from my 06' Cally bertha's and these things may be the one's at only £300. My problem is can you get them custom fitted? (properly fitted, not just a quick once over by some spotty work experience yoof' in A/G) Who say "you're lucky sir you are a regular fit and I just happen to have a perfect set in the back"

the gunmetal irons are great as are the new CNC forged irons. I dont think you can go wrong for the money
