I am currently looking at re-shafting my Hybrid and have been looking at the Ozik Matrix XCON Altus shaft, was wondering if anyone has any thoughts, reviews etc of the Ozik shafts? Thanks Nimbleblade

I've used this shaft extensively with the Nakashima NX-1 utility and it's one of the top performing hybrid shafts I've used. A cheaper option is the Matrix MFS 115 or 85HB which also is a fine hybrid. ACCRA have just released the ACCRA Axiv Hybrid shaft which is probably worth a look at. Very smooth feel in the ACCRA's and extremely popular on the tour.

expensive , over-hyped and still not better than steel if you can handle the weight
|
 |
'not better than steel' In what way is it not better?

The shafts aren't actually that expensive, I have the chance to get one fitted for £75 which I think is very reasonable. Seems that people either love them or hate them, very few middle of the road reviews. Will keep looking, Pure Forged thanks for the recommendations, will have a look at those also Nimbleblade

Nimbleblade If you can get one for £75 it will be money well spent as long as the spec suits you/your swing. They do divide opinion as they are both (relatively) expensive and hard to find/try out. However those that have tried them and in a spec that is suited to their game tend to agree on superb they are. Would also agree that the ACCRA is a smooth shaft but not as good for a harder swinger.

Gareth Thanks, I am a 'hard swinger' as you call it, some are amazed I don't fall over, and definately looking at an Ozik Thanks Nimbleblade

 "hard swinger" oohh err missus
|
 |
My S/S with the driver is 110-115 and I have the X-Con 7 Stiff Ozik. With the hybrid (Sonartec HB001) I have the X-Con Altus Strong flex and love it. Plenty of feel and torque, yet smooth as well. Go for it - it's only £75 as you said

I would say the ACCRA XH hybrid Tour shafts are predominantly for the harder swinger. Same as the ACCRA SE series, there isn't much else comes close to this shaft in terms of stability.

There are lots of shafts for hard swingers, just look for an overall profile that plays an X, and get the stiffness in the tip, Diamana Whiteboard for example, Graf Blue another, Fuji Reax another. I hate them all, I like to feel the tip and need and prefer the stiffness in the butt. I use a Fuji 26.3 in X, hard swingers look elsewhere' Alos think about weight, FUJI do a Pro 95 with torque under 2 (torue between 2-5 pretty much plays the same anyway) and in an X the profile is like aplank of wood, and being discontinued you can get one for peanuts. But its not just tempo you match anyway, its also release point and angle of attack. I've seen one 'hard swinger' use an A flex, and loved it so much he bagged it.

"I like to feel the tip and need and prefer the stiffness in the butt" - only on a golf equipment forum could you get away with saying that!!!

LMAO - Classic
I'm a bit more worried about Wormburner's 'Well I'm Stumped' thread now though

Definately seems to be a theme developing

Wormburner Totally agree that there are a few more variables as you suggested. However some general characteristics tend to apply to certain makes of shafts.

Picked up a pulled Ozik altus from US ebay, cost about £40 inclusive of shipping. Put it in my nakashima nx1 utility head (did it myself). Awesome, really accurate club, never known such tight dispersion. Only negative to the shaft is that it does not have great feel, it feels a little dead, but with results like this I don't care !!

Interesting. One of my older "keeper" drivers is a R510TP that needs a new shaft after the (fantastic) Speeder 757 went and am looking at an Altus on offer for that at the moment. £40 (inc P&P from the US) is silly cheap geldap...good on you!!
|
 |
The 510TP is a great club, I regret selling mine

Folks Thanks for the thoughts , suggestions Have a new 585H shafted with the Altus Xcon hybrid on way from the States and just picked up a Ozik TP 7X for a steal So can feel a 2nd Driver joining the stable Nimbleblade

Nimblade If you don't mind me asking what did you get the TP7X for please? That 585 with the Xcon (same shaft I have in my HB001) is a weapon!
