Hi Just after your opinions/recommendations on a set of irons for me. I haven't got a lot of cash (around £100-£200), play off of about a 18 handicap and play about once a week. I'm taking up more lessons when the weather gets warmer and increasing the visits to the driving range though! My current irons are a mash up of hand me downs and all sorts, so need something more consistent. A couple of people have said that the MD Blackhawk combos are pretty good. Anybody also used the benross vx ranges? - they seem a good buy. I'm loathed to go and get some ropey secondhand set form ebay, and would most likely end up buying some snides. Thanks!

best irons ive seen for a long while in ur price range mate, and for ur handicap. ( in that i mean an improver) i would go for wilson staff pi5's. they look great they. feel quite nice. and are for someone that is looking for something a little less clunky. and ther about £150 theres others out there, but thats my recommendation for £price and quality

A lot of ebay sellers that are dodgy stick to the mass market products like taylor made and callaway. A mate of mine of a tremendous almost new set of hogan blades for £130. I hve looked at similar sets such as the Hogan apex edge which can be picked up for less than £200 on ebay. There are still some great bargains on there if you do your research on the seller etc. As clubs lose 80% of their value in the first 2 years it makes sense to buy used.

Thanks for all the replies.` The MX-15's look a good buy. Don't know about the wilsons - they look a bit to 'pro' for me, almost blade like. Still a good price though. Reckon i'll go for the MX-15s, but i'll do a bit more digging before pay day! Thanks

I'd say look at Benross (eg these or these), MD Forged Oversize or EQLs or even these Taylor Mades (only 5-SW but you can add hybrids later) before looking at the Black Hawks. That's not from experience of the irons, but I prefer my Benross clubs (woods, hybrid and wedge) to my MD Black Hawk hybrid, which is very much MD's entry-level offering (whilst still being perfectly competent). The Mizunos are a great choice too, but if it was my money with a £200 limit I'd be buying these Yonex clubs, just because I love the look of them.

If I was in your position I would go for one of the MD's that Gary has shown you. Excellent value and damn good clubs to boot.

I have a set of Orka Kii which are available for £200 with the basic shaft options. A bit different to the norm and I love them. They are fully fitted for that price as well.

Just an update - I went for the taylor mades rac os at the end of the day. Nice club, good price, well reccommended for a mid-high handicapper. Thx to GVI Gary for pointing them out.
