Hi all,

I have been playing golf for the last two years and have always had a cart bag. Looking at purchasing a new bag and not sure if I should go with a cart or move to a stand bag.

Anybody have any pro's and con's advice?

I prefer to carry my bag, as it seems like more work to me to drag a trolley.  You can also always go directly from A to B.

Get as light a back as you can and only carry what you really need.  Simple things like watching the number of golf balls you carry can make a difference.

I use a stand bag as I feel at the age of 27 i've no reason not to!!! Also I always seem to run myslef over with a trolley!!

I can highly recomend Callaways Hot 2008 stand bag!!

Dan

Are you referring to the Warbird Hot bag. I like the look of it but to me the section for the Woods seem to be down the wrong side. Have you found this?

Cheers

I have used a stand bag for several years, but recently used a trolley as my back was playing up.  Best thing I ever did as I don't have aching limbs and back pain for several days afterwards as I used too.  I am now converted to using a trolley (in fact I keep looking at the Powerkaddy website and I am still in my thirties (just)).

Having said that I would still buy a stand bag and put it on the trolley sideways.  Simple reasons are:-

  1. If the course are not allowing trolleys because of wet conditions, if you have a cart bag and carry it you need to lay it down between shots.  Remember "wet conditions" therefore you bag is now filthy and wet.
  2. When you are trying to get everything out of the boot of the car, the stand is invaluable (especially when you are transporting more that one bag and trolley), otherwise you have to get all the trolleys out first or prop bags up against the car which promptly fall over.
  3. Cart bags are often bogger and offer more pockets which you will fill up with all sorts of junk that you do not/will not need, therefore, heavier.
  4. If you decide to use a baggy rather than trolley, the bag can sit outside the club house quite happily while you have an orange juice , rather than you either having to do the extra mile across the car park or use on of those rusty metal bag props you sometimes see.
  5. I have never used a bag of any type that has not twisted on a trolley, so putting a stand bag on sideways make little if any difference in the long run.
  6. A stand bag if normally lighter.

To my mind, the flexibility/convenience of a stand bag outways the extra capacity of a cart bag.

I use both electric trolly and carry as they have pros and cons,

Elec Cart

Less stress / potential back problems carrying

Can  move your clubs uphills without any effort

Clubs don't clatter together as much damaging my nice forged irons

Less tired at the end of the round, or especially for me on two round outings

You can carry more stuff/juice/snacks/beer!

You don't have to repeatedly lift it on and off your shoulder

Carry Bag

Quicker to get ready and off to play

Can walk over tees/greens

Can walk through rough

You can leave it in your locker if you have one

It wont break or run out of juice during a round (in my case the wheel sheared off my trolly 5 holes from the finish during a round last season - major pain in the ass trying to steer a 2 wheeled elec trolly)

There are many more pros and cons debated here previously.

I never carried for years but started again last season, especially for quick games and tbh, enjoy doing both. Carry for bounce games, quick after work games. Elec trolly for medals, open comps or 2 round all day outings, or to longer courses with society.

Ste1010, yep, that's the one i'm refering to. I haven't found any problem with the 'woods' storage, It's a great bag in my opinion, I went for the black.

I have both,

When I'm feeling energetic I carry, When I'm not or If I'm playing 36 holes in a day, I push cart bag on a Sunmountain Speed cart! Not quite old enough for an electric Trolley Yet!!

I use both stand bad for a quick 9 at the local nice flat municipal and my cart bag and trolley elsewhere. I carry so much stuff, drinks waterproofs etc for 18 holes that to carry would give me (another) heart attack as well as the fact that my bagboy revolver is a fair weight on its own. Incidentally I'm about to invest in a clicgear push cart version 2 (just out). Anybody got any views on these?

I have carried for the last 3 years, less walking and to me easier than pulling a trolley.

I am 74
