Hi all,

First post this year I think!

Went down to my local shop yesterday to get my driver re-gripped and spied a set of TM R7 irons, marked as 2nd hand but they are completely unmarked looks like they have never been used. Hit a few balls with them and apart from an initial tendency to put them slightly left got on really well with them. I had been thinking of getting a set of Mizuno's to replace my worn out Callaway Golds but these felt pretty good (on the range at least) I got them for £275 in the end and also got 6 NXT's, some tee's and my regripping thrown in. Impulse buy - was it a reasonable deal? It feels like it was and they really are as good as new..

Cheers

Andy

If they look as good as new that is a total bargin like. They real?. The R7 is a nice club is was just 2nd to my AP1's a couple of weeks ago. Really light shaft in them standard I think anyway. Was using callaway x20's before which were a little heavier IMHO. But if they real you got a good deal. How many irons did you get?

Thanks Kieron, I should hope they are real, it's a reputable pro shop as far as I know - http://www.billwoodmansgolf.com/ near Croydon, Surrey. I have been researching them and from what I can tell they came out in 2006??

This is the same place I got a brand new TM R7Quad for 89.99 last year!

Got 3 - PW so will have to keep using my Callaway Sand iron.

 Cheers

Well that is a well good price if not better than I have ever seen. 90 for a R7 driver is good too like. You might be able to find a cheap SW on e bay or something. I use vokeys for wedges to go with my AP1's so its not too bad!

When you R7 irons, which one's do you mean ?

There are few different types. If you have the CGB irons then they are a bloody bargain and they are great irons.

I don't think any of the R7 irons are badly thought of, the R7 and R7 draw are very much game improver models and personally I like the look of them.

The CGB max irons are one of the few irons that could tempt me from my Nike pro combo's which I love.

No they are not the CGB's I don't think, I had a look on this site and i think they are the original R7's?? Typical of me to buy 1st research later

They look exactly the same as the one's in this review.

Oh dear.. doesn't look good! I'll let you know what I think after a few weeks of playing with them, if i use them that long! Looks like an ebay sale may be coming up! Down in Somerset this w/e playing Saturday and Sunday so I will take my old clubs as well as it looks like I may need them on Sunday!!

Andy,

wipe all of the negative vibes from your head and go out and enjoy your clubs.

A new piece of equipment can be a fresh (mental) start and I would hate to see that tainted by somebody elses bad experiences (no offence intended to anyone).

£275 is a good price for a nice piece of kit. Enjoy your shiny new irons mate.

Thanks Pengwyn, i needed that.

Yes I shall do exactly as you say, I havent really been on fire so far this year after really improving last year so a change could be as good as a rest! If not at least I will have a new excuse as to why I had a bad game!

I've had mine for about 4-6 weeks now. I went for 3-PW but swopped the 3i for a TM Burner 4 Hybrid at the same time and also got Golf Pride DD grips instead of the standard grips, paid £450 brand new for the whole lot (that included the 2 hr trial/fitting with my local Pro also), so would say yes, you did get a bargain there.

I am still getting to grips with mine, but i think that is also something to do with still having lessons and trying to go from an out/in to in/out swing path. They do launch the ball nicely, they were far better than the Mizuno's, Cleveland, Cobra etc that i tried in that respect. They also went further but i think that's more down to them being a very 'strong' loft compared to the other clubs.

All in though, they are still a massive improvement over my last set of beginners clubs, and i still get a smile on my face when i drag them out of the garage on a sat/sun morning to get ready for the game.

Andy,

I've had the R7 TP's since September and think that they are fantastic clubs. The standard R7's are excellent clubs too, and are aimed at low to mid handicaps. The lowest handicap golfer at my club uses the standard R7's and loves them. Like any club, they won't suit everyone, and Frogmellas looking old so quick was obviously not good, but that doesn't mean the same will happen with yours.

They still look in excellent condition after at least 2 rounds a week, much better than the Mizuno MP60's that I replaced, which got dinged up easily being forged. They also feel better than the MP60's to me, which amazes me.

At the end of the day you need to make up your own mind about them and how they suit your game, not be influenced either way by anyone else's experiences or views.

I have a set of the original Burners from like 95 or whenever it was. Still look good now to be honest so maybe somebody was having an off day in the TM factory with your r7's.

What somebody said about the mental thing is true aswell. I have a couple of r7 irons on loan from my club and the newness of them adds so much confidence!

Update!

Well I have used my new r7s 3 times now, the first was on Saturday at a quite incredibly wet and windy day at the links course in Minehead, the irons were great, gave me so much confidence I was using the longer irons much more than I used to, punching them low to beat the wind and hardly had any duff shots. Sunday was a nicer day so I got more of an idea of what distances i could actually get with them in the normal non gale force world and again they were great - played yesterday evening in Beckenham in really nice conditions and for some reason was hitting more duff shots with them particuarly the Pitching wedge for some weird reason.. Anyway I am going to stick with them, after just the 3 games they are still looking great when I clean them up. Summing up though they have definitley given me some more confidence in using long irons again which is a relief as I was worried that with their being aimed at low handicappers my game wouldnt be up to using them.

Thanks for all your advice chaps!
