really would like to video my golf swing but not sure what i need to do it. I it possible to use a digital camera that takes pictures? i know that these can store small videos?
I use a Sony camcorder, I think you will find the majority of digital cameras that also take video are at low frames per second, so you will just see a blur (even on a camcorder you still have freeze frames where you cannot see the club clearly.
I then use David Leadworse's analyser software to draw all the pretty lines etc that show me how bad my swing is.
I think frame-rate is more to do with how much of the swing is actually recorded, while shutter speed determines how blurry fast moving objects look. Some recommend at least 1/1500sec shutter speed or faster, so you can clearly see what the clubhead is doing (ie square, open, closed, etc). Fast shutter speeds do tend to work best in good light though.
Previous Sony HD camcorder models tend to be quite poor with shutter speed, often only down to 1/500-1/800. Think their SD camcorders do allow much faster shutter speeds though. In contrast Canon HD camcorders tend to be 1/2000.
