I think I have found my ultimate driving tool (mainly due to information from Golf Magic) Its a high loft 13.5 degree R7 draw driver with a senior flex shaft shortened by two inches to 3 wood length thus now equating to a semi regular flex that I can hit straight 230 yards plus all day long, should I be content that I have found a suitable driver or strugle to try to find a so called real players club ?

Be content! Be very content!

Go out and have a slap-up meal at Mrs Miggins Pie Shoppee in celebration. Bugger distance, if you can hit it down the middle all day and 230 aint exactly short anyway.

Greenfly your a very clever boy - and very lucky too 230 yards straight down the middle all day long is most peoples dream - You handicap will tumble - Will watch this space!!

When I was fitted for a driver I ended up with a similar combination, Orka Kii 13 degree loft, regular shaft cut to 3 wood length and this has served me very well for about a year. Problem is that it has not killed off the attraction of all the shiny new drivers and even through it works very well I still have to stop myself picking up the latest models that I know will not work as well. Then again, am still tempted by the Ben Sayers Benny. The shaft length is only 44 inches so should still be able to control it.

Great idea Greenfly. It could catch on.

G: What is a real players club ???? I assume that you're real, that you play (golf), with a (golf) club, on this planet...Therefore your R7 is a "real players club". I hope your golfing partners are "real" also, otherwise look out for the men in white coats !!

Stick to what works. My work mates take the urine out of me because of my 7 wood. I play off 12 they play off around 20, can you see the irony . Most of the real life tests say most of us should do what you have done - shorten the shaft length - get more loft - whack it down the middle. If however you do decide to sell give me a shout I may be interested in a little trial myself.

How many extra yards do you need to get out of your driver to make up for one or two tee shots going out of bounds? The Pros are the real players and they use shorter shafts, and whatever else gives them the best accuracy without sacrificing too much distance. Stick to what works for you!

Thanks for all the comments, I'm going to stick with it and avoid the temptaion to try to find a club that I may once drive 270 yards but stick it the rough the other 9 out of 10 times, just a shame its near impossible to hit of the deck, still cant have everything

Ah, you've found the "secret" too. My driving was my achilles heel for years - I have now become very comfortable with a 14deg reg flex driver with a shortened shaft (43.5" I think). This year, I have been driving the ball straighter and longer than I ever have. It's definitely the way to go for the likes of us (a monster drive for me is anything over 210yds!).

I started off hiting a ping g5 miles but could never find the fairway, sold that for a TM R7 Draw which my mate now has and I tee off with a TM Mid 16 rescue which I can hit straight all day and therfore no more looking for balls which I hate. I also think about drivers and could I hit it loads further but I will just keep telling myself to keep it on the short stuff.
