Hi everyone, this is my first post and i'm currently looking for a electric trolley,i have it narrowed down to the freeway digital or the s3 as in title.

What i'm asking about is that i've searched the net everywhere and there isn't 1 review that compares both models against one another as in which last's the most holes in a single charge with like for like batteries(I.E both 36 hole batteries)which one is faster, which one has more power going uphill.

I know i like the look of the s3 the most and the distance mode on it is very much to my liking, but i'm worried that when i get it it will be really slow or slower than the powakaddy.

Has anyone got an experience of the two side by side?or am i going to have to play it safe and sacrifice looks for proven reliability and performance the powakaddy has earned?

Anyone??

I know this is not much help but i bought the S3 last  week and never once did I have it up at no 9 on the speed control. I have the 27 hole battery and on its first outing i used it for 24 holes no bother. On Sunday I used it for our Championship tees comp which lasted 5hrs 20 and over 8000 yards. The speed control was simple set it to the desired number then push the button to stop & start. My first impressions are very possative.

I do not think I would worry about the speed as I have never seen a golfer walk at its full speed unless you are into power walking.

ive had a motocaddy s1 digital for a month. i only have the 18 hole battery but it is still going strong at the end of a round on a hilly course about 6500 yds.

i find the speed setting about 5 is fine for walking pace. ive had the setting at 9 for a steep hill and it cruised up on its own no problem. i also find the motocaddy quiet when the motor is running. hope this helps

Cheers for the replies, look's like i'll be going for the motocaddy then.

Anyone else got any negatives or is it all good?

as long as you have an understanding of the golden rule " you get what you pay for"  . . . .  they both do the job  they are supposed to .

Havent used the motocaddy but have had miserable experiences with Powakaddy. So I would avoid them like the plague, their concept of customer service on relatively new trolleys that break is "we have your money you moron, now sod off".

I have had the S3 (2007 model) since june last year and it has been great although I cannot compare it to any other as this is the first time I have had a leccy trolley.

A couple of weeks ago I played 3 x 18 holes (over a week) and forgot to charge the battery in between! Finished the 3rd 18 holes and it still had at least half power showing on the meter but I did charge it after this just in case! BTW, you are supposed to leave this battery on trickle charge at all times it is not in use.

With regard the distance mode for measuring your drives, this is a bit of a gimmick as I used it regurlarly for the first few months but haven't touched it since. However, now the summer is here I may just measure a couple of my Sunday best 300yd 3wood drives.

Walking pace is around 6 for me, 9 I use on a couple of very steep hills and it goes up no problem without me pushing it. I cannot find anything wrong with it except probably the S3 bag. If I hadn't got it for free when buying the trolley I would not have bought it but it certainly does the job, just.

I have had the S3 for almost a year now (upgraded to 2008 PC board)

 Pros:

1. Battery Life  (tho I did get one replaced under warranty)

2. Silence of motor in operation

3. Power - no hills defeat it

4. Easy of assembly - unfold and place battery in holder

5. Customer service - excellent

Cons:

1. Size of handle  - (width thereof)

2. Rotary speed control is too sensitive to touch

3. Gimmicry (temperature / distance)

4. The ADC is a pain in the 4rse to use

Conclusion  - Would go for 2007 model S1 next time (2008 model has a too wide handle)

Creo may have had trouble with HIS Powakaddy but then he has had trouble with even more golf-related AND non-golf subjects than ME!-golf clubs(especially DRIVERS), irons, trollies, members' clubs, Senior golfers, RELIGION, modern mores, lady golfers, ad infinitum ad nauseam all of which makes him a sort of late middle-age, Ian Poulterish GM mascot and wit? to disagree most often with my Victor Meldrew image?!

I have had a Powakaddy Freeway with a 36 hole battery for six years now. The first battery has only recently been replaced and I have JUST spent £80 on a new control switch. Apart from that it has behaved impeccably.

Finally, a big welcome to the finest golf board anywhere with the liveliest and most switched-on golfers! Including Creo

Have had a S3(2008 model) for 3 months, and find it to be everything they claim it to be,and agree with Birdie Boy regarding the use of the distance readings. Only use them sporadically now.The motor and gearbox are completely quite, and the battery(according to the readout) has loads of power left after 18 holes.

I have used, and know many people with Powakaddys, but to me compared to the Motocaddy is a little heavier, and not so easy to fold away, and put in the car.

You could save yourself £100 by going for the S1,and dont bother with the frills. This is the advice I was given, and while I'm certainly not disapointed with the S3 it possibly should have ben taken.

I have an S1, I bought just over 2 years ago. I am on my second battery, had the axle replaced under warranty as it sheared  and have also just fitted a second motor as the original was damaged after someone knocked the on/off switch to on and the trolley was parked up pointing at the clubhouse wall. The smell of burning after 15 mins like that was horrendous.

Anyway, the motor took 2 days from entering on the website to delivery. Can't argue with that.  I will though in future be in the habit of unplugging the battery when I park the trolley up at the clubhouse.

I would have another Motocaddy thats for sure.

b.bennett,

If your set on a S3, I have a 6 month old 2008 model (still with 6 months warranty) that I have just had fully serviced by Motocaddy and had the new elastic multipoint bag supports fitted. It has the brolly holder fitted and I am about to get off my a£$e and take some pics to put it on ebay.

Reason? I'm a bit of a ham-fisted sod and am struggling to get to grips with the circular control. Others I know with the S3 have no such issues..meaning it's just me

It has a 36 hole battery and the 2008 ADC functionality as well as the travel bag (the one the trolley goes in..not clubs)

Let me know if you're interested.

Thanks for your replies,I've just this second got in from ordering an S3,S3 bag and a travel cover.

Thanks for your offer JC as above,i've gone ahead.

Cheers everyone.

I'm sure you will enjoy the S3.

If you can, cancel the order for the motocaddy bag. They are awful, nowhere near enough pockets, and you can forget the drinks container, the most it can hold is a small can. If you have a'gust buster' type of umbrella it will not fit the holder(too tight). The quality leaves a lot to be desired also.I got mine changed for a Powacaddy bag, which fits the S3  perfectly.

Ditto re the bag. Mine is sitting in my garage collecting mouse poo. Pockets too small, drinks pocket will hold not more than 200ml bottle, no strap for carrying to range.

Really useful forum regarding Motocaddy vs Powakaddy. I am inclined to go for the Motokaddy S1 and save a few pounds. Will my new Ogio cart bag fit the trolley ok?

Show/hide user stats
I think it will fit ok,i had an ogio grom carry bag that just fitted, apart from where the stand legs attached at the top,it caused the bag to twist all the time.

I've had the Powakaddy Freeway with 36 hole battery for just over 2 years and have not had any trouble whatsoever so can only comment on the product not the customer service.

One thing I would recomend is that if you do cancel your Motocaddy bag, you go for a cart style bag over a tour style bag as the tour bag doesn't sit right on the trolley and access to pockets can be restrictive.

On the speed issue> The other half  just bought a Powakaddy and after running them side by side with my S3 having a much heavier bag on it . The S3 was faster than the Powakaddy,  it was also quieter and much easier to connect the battery. Mags struggles to push the Powakaddy battery connection into place.

b. Thanks for the Ogio bag advice - it's the Syncro. I have noticed the bottom of the bag does not fit my pull trolley very well becauce the base of the bag is uneven and sort of scalloped.  Will keep looking for deals online for Powakaddy S1 or S3.
