Can anybody help.

I am a 16 handicapper with a swing speed of between 92-95( my driver goes about 250yrds) and I am currently using top flight feel balls and think it is time for a better ball.

I still want something that is soft because I like the feel around the green but dont think I an anywhere near good enough for the likes of the  pro v1.

What do you guys think???

Srixon AD333. all the way, great quality ball, hard enough to get distance  yet soft enough for spin and feel when putting. Plus at 1/2 the price of Pro v1 you can afford to lose a few.

Titleist NXT

Agree with Aces, 333's are great, As are the Trispeeds and the Titleist NXT range You could even go for the Wilson DX2's Try and buy a sleeve of each (£4-5 each) and try them side by side!

I just got cut from 16 to 15 (!) and have tried loads of different balls.  Srixon AD333s are great all rounders and were my ball of choice.  Recently I bought a box of Wilson DX2 Soft, and I now prefer these to the Srixons - they seem to feel better to me off the clubface and I feel like I get better control round the greens.  They also fly a little less far than the Srixons (i'd say 5-10 yards off a good drive) but for me that means they are less likely to disappear in the trees!!!

I use NXT's but having tried Inesis TD Tour from Decathlon as recommened by others on here. At £30 for 24 I they are as good as NXT but 2/3rd of the price

Dannyboy,

Paul is spot on. AD333 are a great ball (my current choice), Wilson DX2 are super soft but a little shorter off the face (about 1 club less IMO) I also like Nike PowerDistance Flight for distance off the driver.

Any of the above balls will be very good for you. IMO playing ProV1s or like of this is silly, all you are doing is providing other people with nice balls which you have lost .

Look at it this way, you knock one way right but you have to go look fir it coz it cost £3 a throw ouch. Playing the mid price balls I would just leave it and hit another (in social games of course).

Unless you play with my mate Billy, Who will spend 10 mins looking for a Donnay Titanium and only ever play balls that he finds on the course! 'Fact' He has NEVER bought a new golf ball in our 20 years of playing golf!

I agree with 1 over, buy a sleeve of each and give them a try.

Srixon Soft Feel seem to get forgotten about in the rush to try AD333's and Wilson PX3 are worth a try.

I have always avoided Pro V1's on the basis they would not suit my game (22h/c), but last week Iwas given one as a promotional freebie at an exhibition and after playing with it last week it feels really good, not too much side spin with the driver and it putts sooo well.

Dilema, do I take back all I have said in the past and pay the price (I lost 4 balls on Saturday), at £35ish a doz this is could be an expensive game.

I currently play to 16 and try to avoid Prov1's! Not cause I cant afford them but as my swing speed of between 85-90 MPH is not fast enough to get the full benefit of a professional golf ball.

I do to find a lot of them on my course (I have a big bag of the buggers in the garage) and I do have the odd bash on a par 3, with very impressive stopping capabilities, But as for longer par 4' and 5's I tend to use Srixon AD333's, Trispeeds and NXT's the new Extreme NXT is very good too!

Im not a lover of Nike Golf balls! (or anything Nike for that matter)

I desided this year to go to Bridgestone e5+ and couldn't be happier. It has urithane cover wich is only seen on premium balls.

I used to play NXT tour and can honestly say that this one is a better ball. It feels longer of the tee (which might also be due to swing change), cost less and is much more durable.

I have tried the nxt, ad333 and srixion soft feel. For the same price the soft feels are better imo. At the moment I am loving the bridgestone 330 tour 3 piece, but these are pro v money

I've switched from Pro V1 to Taylormade Burner TP in the last month. A little firmer but still nice to hit. The Burner and Burner TP have been released to target the market of the balls discussed above.

Agree with others, get a sleeve (or find a couple!) and try them out. I have a superstition about balls. If I play well (with a new model) it is a good ball and suits me, play bad and the ball type doesn't suit and won't get hit again.

I am off 14 (swing speed 99mph) and like using the NXT but as I rarely lose balls I sometimes use a ProV1 but I do not think it is much better than the NXT.

I am interested in the Inesis. Where do you get them? I usually use bricks over winter but at the price if they match up with (or are better than) the NXT I would be willing to give them a bash

Trust me Dannyboy, it makes bu**er all difference what ball you use. It's nice to think otherwise, but it's not true. Not for a 16, and not for a 5 either. To believe anything else is to fall for the marketing blurb.

Hit it better, score better. Simple as.

I played golf with a 4 handicapper last year - a student who had a placement year where I work. He tee'd the ball up on the par 3 15th at my course and we watched as the ball went in for an ace. It was the first I'd ever seen and I was more excited than he was it seemed, though it was his first hole in one. We got to the green and he would not pick the ball out of the hole but laughing all the while asked me to do it. It was the crapiest, X-out, practice bag ball I'd seen anyone play for real on a course.

I was going to recommend the Titleist NXT Tour as a reasonably priced 'upgrade' from your existing selection, but I see you're already thinking of the Pro V.

Looks like you are on the right track IMO

Good grief not a mention of the Titleist PTS/ DT So Lo's, if you have a JJB store near you have a quick look in there for some, an excellent ball, very similar to the AD333's or should that be the other way round, not only that dirt cheap in JJB's for a try out, last time I got some in there they cost a tenner for 24!!!

I rate the PTS SoLo's and used them all winter, and still have a few you can try out if you like.

I also rate the NXT Extremes which I am currently using. Wasn't too keen on the Srixons, although they were the  older models of the AD333 and soft feels that I used.

May sound daft, but I found the AD333's used to always lie really low in the rough leading to a few lost balls when I wouldn't have expected to lose them.

I would spend your money on some new irons before you get some better balls. Theres a nice set of Ping i3's on ebay that would suit you

I guess they must be on the heavy side then; close to 45.93g I shouldn't wonder.  Or perhaps they are frictionless. Don't get any of those frictionless tees to go with them or you'll be doing 9 hour rounds.
