do i spend £9.99 plus 15% discount on nike ndx distance balls or pay £11.99 for the callaway warbird, both 12 pack.

Be cheap, but not THAT cheap
Warbirds go a very long way but you'll get no stop or check on greens - no idea about the Nikes!
the nikes are crap - they are just a bog standard hard distance ball - no feel at all. You can do better for the money!
No, you pay £12 something for a box of Srixon AD333 from Best4balls.

i went to buy the callaway warbirds for my daughter today, but left with nothing as the AG sales assistant was constantly telling me i was wasting my money & for £5 more I can get the superior Wilson Staff Dx2 Soft Golf Balls, he was very pushy in his technique, has he got any claims to his boasts or is he on commission from wilson

F*(£!^& fanboys! I thought they only existed in the games console industry. Spit, in general direction! **moderated**

In all honesty the Dx2 is a better ball but shop around cos I've seen them advertised for less than 15 quid.
Last year TG did a huge ball test. The merits of those tests aside the Warbird actually ranked very highly in both the distance and the wedge-spin category.
I bought into the hype and bought myself a doz for the same price you mention above.
Distance wise, yep they go a long way but - feeling like a diamond's harder cousin - they really like a good tw*tting to get the most out of them. I'm sorry that's not very eloquently put, but it best describes what I felt about them.
As for wedge-spin, well the guy in the TG test was a pro, I am not and unfortunately even with a full wedge shot (decently struck IMO) - for me - they had the stopping power of sheet ice & I saw every ball that landed on a green (which happens occasionally) run off like a raped ape!
Similar poorly executed wedge shots with my favoured ProV1's do manage to stop (mostly).
One thing I did notice spin wise though was the exaggerated sidespin - especially into a wind. Ok that's a fault of mine but it's certainly *less* noticeable with different balls.
If you like a softer ball and/or have a slower swing speed then the AD333's, PTS Solo, MaxFli Noodle or the wonderful Pinnacle Exception balls (if you can source some - there's a few still floating about) are definitely worth a look.
If you do like a firmer (or even hard) ball then the Warbird are strategically priced to compete with the TopFlite & Pinnacle rocks.
However, and I'm being serious here (which doesn't happen often wi' me), if you do consider forking out for a set of Dx2's then could I suggest the Inesis TD Tour balls. These balls are a *premium* ball but at 15 quid a doz you won't be crying when you lose one (although Taz does!). The only drawback being that you have to live near a Decathelon sports store in order to get them.

Thanks for the info, ive found some Lx2 ladies wilson balls for £4 plus £5 postage, which on the picture look the same as the Dx2s, for that moneynot to much to lose.

Gary I'm very sad to HAVE to say this to you. If you MUST play this great game then please dont advertise your obsession with playing with cheap, nasty, non-performing golf balls and describing yourself as a golfer. I hope to God for our sake and yours that you dont come back on GM asking for information on the cheapest possible clubs, gloves, shoes, bags, trollies etc, etc!
lucky im not a golfer then lol, i just stand & watch her, i dont mind paying for quality, as I know nothing about golf I just go by what im told, out of interest what balls would you recommened for my 12 year old daughter that arent cheap , she had quite a collection of gloves from footjoy, nike & taylormade so ii should be ok there lol

Gary, Callaway Pearls are specially designed for Girls/Ladies, They are around £20 a dozen and are a good quality 3 piece ball, Which offer good distance and great feel around the greens.
Callaway Pearls are total garbage, for any golfer, lady, gent or junior. Callaway Warbirds are worst (Callaway are past masters at achieving the seemingly impossible). Boa - we agree for once The cost of golf balls is small compared to all the other costs of playing the game yet is prolly the most impostant part. Just go get Prov's and be done with it. If you lose too many then go learn how to play so you can hit them without losing them, call it an incentive. If you wanna know what a good ball is go watch a top amateur championship, the guys have to pay for their own stuff, and 80% or more will be using Prov's. You dont see them teeing it up Nike crap, or even worse Callaway. Or look at it another way, find a good amateur who ISN'T Using Prov's.

Creo Dont you feel that you are being just a little TOO dogmatic? The Callaway HX Tour and HX 56 are good enough for the likes of most of the Callaway Staff players e.g Mickelson and Els. I dont like them particularly because they feel even harder than a ProV1X but they are long and spin quite well. Personally, the very best performing ball I have ever used is a Maxfli Black Max which for some unknown reason has been discontinued. Possibly because when Taylormade took over they found that it performed better than the TP Red and Black they were about to put on the market! Typical Taylormade! Some excellent products-particularly drivers but a lousy company to deal with as pros and end users have found out for years, let alone its employees-here today and gone tomorrow! By the way I know a good many excellent amateurs who dont play Pro Vs all the time.

Creosote Surely there is a halfway house here.I don't think anyone would disagree that Pro v's are the best ball. However to get the best from them you have to be pretty useful, say cat. 1 handicap down. I have used them(and like them),but can get twice as much for my money using NXT's,Wilson Dx2's,Srixon AD333's etc.which are perfectly alright for mid handicappers. Mind you, when using a new sleeve of Pro v, s it's a great training aid for concentrating the mind

Oldboy I am not surprised that you use AD333s instead of Pro Vs. The Srixons cost less than half the Titleists and unless you are playing on very firm greens they perform just about the same and I have found no noticeable distance difference off a full iron or a driver. They also give a softish feel off a putter IMO. I know a number of low Cat 1s who use these balls, initially because they really could not afford the ProV1s but subsequently because they really liked their performance -as I do although if money were no object I would still tend to use a Pro V1.
I am around cat 1 and use AD333s for half the year at least, Pro V rest of year
