Hi All

Having just purchased i weight kit for my putter ,i am not sure which way to go with the weight,, lighter or heavier.

Using the standard weight fitted i am fitting the ball about three to four ft passed. I will not have time to try the weights before i play next and was hoping that some of you guys may help me before my next game.

i know that once i practice with the weights i will be able to dial it in but until then i need some info.

i have read somewhere about putter swing weights but can't remember where and the outcome

cheers B

Hi Brian,

no substitute for 'dialing in' I'm afraid......the variances are too great from player to player and from putter to putter.

I would stick with what you have right now and don't change the set-up until you get a chance to spend some time dialing it in.....Once you do, you will not be disappointed!

I've got a gm2 exchange putter and have the weights set up to max - 370g. Helps you to make a more smooth, reliable, back and through swing. I find I miss more putts when lighter as it tends to sway off line. For me heavy every time until you have a really solid swing, when you can then change weights for different conditions etc.

The heavier the harder it is to control distance on longer putts. Its a trade-off. You just have to spend some time dialling it in for your game and your greens.

can weights be added to any putter? I lose most strokes because I tend to underhit my puts by about 2 or 3 inches. Is this something the weights would help with?

Never thought about this before!

Slugger

you can get lead strips from most golf shops and just add them to the putter head.

Recently had my Scotty weight increased via tungsten weight in the shaft and weight plug in the shaft top and a new heavy grip fitted, not had chance to try it out yet but on the carpet it feels more stable.

Hi All

Just an update on the putter weight issue, having finally managed to get some practice in i have  changed the weight to the max settings and my god what a differance,i am how a lot more stable with my putting stroke and feel i am going to put everything in from 10ft & in.

Distance control took a couple of days to sort out but,am now lagging putts but to two, three feet which is great.I Started using the lighter weights first going up thru to highest, and as the weight went up the better the feel and stroke felt.

I'm now very happy with my new macgregor mini gt and weight kit which cost £55 new in total,, considering they cost £150 new about two three years ago is a steal.

ps

I did buy a brand new odyessy black series putter which felt superb but i was three putting everywhere once on the course,so had to try something to see if it was me or the putter, bought the macgregor and what a differance it made neddless to say the odyessy was sold not long after.
