I recently brought some TM RAC irons and want to keep the in tip-top shape.
I previously had some forged Titleist original DCI's that really suffered with dents and rubbing.
Do forged irons really scuff up so much worse than cast irons? If cast irons won't show as many dents I might consider sacking the nasty iron covers....
Any advice would be great.

Chip, forged clubs are usually softer and are prone to taking a battering. I play with Ben Hogans and they look like they are around 10 years old ! Because forged clubs are softer they will get damaged easier. Cast irons will not damage half as much as forged clubs so you can ditch those horrible iron covers !!

 Chip
Dont use covers for my LT's and still in great condition so i would say dont bother with them

Yes stainless steel is as tough as it comes but the dings are only cosmetic - the performance is not altered. My 4 year old Mizuno forged look well used but cared for. I would rather play a match against a player with flashy new clubs than some guy who has a set of well worn but expensive forged clubs - any day.

I have bought new MX-23 clubs and I'm afraid I have put covers on them. I can't bear the thought of my lovely new clubs getting all messed up!
I had Titleist 822OS before that and my friend had the same 12 months later his looked a hell of a lot better than mine. I leave my clubs in the car a lot too, so they tend to get dinged up in there while I drive.
In my defense, the covers are black and go with my black bag. Does that make me less of a geek?

I am affraid that i have also put covers on my New RAC LTs couldn't bare the sight of ding marks all over them.

 |
Yep....i put covers on my new Cally X-16's and I dont care what anyone says!!!
Have to take some care though....if the clubs get dirty and wet, then they can sweat in the covers and rust!!!

I have covers on my clubs, I carry, and I hate sounding like a rag and bone man.
|
 |
I guess this boils down to how much I love my new sticks. I think I'll stick with covers for the time being... No doubt I'll lose them in a few months anyway!
Cheers everyone.

Dont be a geek and use iron covers !! all you need to do is put your bag towel in between the clubs. It does the job and you dont look a right knobhead !! It also saves time keep taking them off and then puting them back on again !

Depends also on whether you are a golfer or a poser.
Shiny new clubs, Two Ball putter, polished shoes, knife edge crease down yer chino's - 3 series BMW in the car park.
Fancy 18 holes of matchplay fer money?
; o )

 Lol Alan,
I care about my clubs and use covers, keeps em quiet and in tip top condition...
I iron my trousers (learnt how to in the forces)
Polish my shoes, keeps em clean and waterproofed
Not got a Bmw but wash and clean my car inside and out
Got a 2 ball putter (knocked several shots off my handicap last year)
Guess im a poser..will play for a couple of quid against anyone though,im sometimes a golfer ;)
I have this vision now of you turning up without covers, clinking about, trousers fresh from the washer without visiting an iron, car on the carpark covered in mud, shoes still mucky from last time and a putter without any lining up aids on it,you then proceed to take several quid off me !!
:0)

Well, I don't iron my trousers but I do clean and polish my shoes to keep them in good condition.
We cover our woods and putters so why not the irons? I take the covers off all my clubs after the round to let them dry off. I really take issue at being called a knobhead just because I look after my equipment and don't worry about what other people think. If you don't like to cover your irons, then fine but I know who will get the better trade-in price after a couple of years.......
And on e-bay they are selling a set of Mizuno branded iron covers with current bid of £41! Seems like some Mizuno owners want to look after their clubs.

Ste, i didnt mean to cause offence. My clubs are always pristine cleaned after every round my shoes are always polished and people coment on how new my clubs look.without the use of the club covers. Please accept my apologies. Wayne

I find my new Titleist stand bag hangs at the correct angle and my clubs rarely jangle together so no need for headcovers, unlike my usual partners Callaway bag and clubs which sound like a West Indian steelband.....

I find it amusing the reaction from some people, both here and on the course to iron covers.
Had the old "Bah" havnt got time/cant be bothered with that, even tough it only takes a blink of an eye to take off and cover.
Ive had funny looks and remarks but laugh when i see them covering up putters and woods like Ste said..so whats the difference ?
I look after everything i own and my golfing clubs are included in that, that aside its worth every penny just for the silence, before covers i used to sound like the tin man running for a bus now the silence is worth having covers for alone. As for the used "look" ,thats why i buy new,if i wanted that look id buy used and save myself some time.
Its a matter of opnion really, either you love them or hate them, each has advantages and each has disadvantages but for me its covers all the way.

Same for me, I use covers never hold anyone up on the course, takes a couple of seconds to get them on and off.
Some of the attitudes on some of the forums here mirror those that you see in clubs. Just because you don't conform to an older persons view of what you should use etc - you are in the wrong (in their eyes).
I'll use what I want and I'll play anyone for money in 18 holes matchplay, look down your nose all you like.
Face it I'm young and just started playing and am only going to get better than I am today - maybe that is the REAL problem.

 Oooooh! Handbags at dawn!

I bought covers for my Mizuno Iron's and becose I kept dropping the dam things and then having to go back down the fairway to look for them I decided to link them together with some string but even then I do find it fiddly taking them on and off.
The last couple of times I've played I've left the covers off and noticed dints and scratches on my once lovely new Mizuno Irons so next time I play !!!!
