Last night had another round of under 100. Im doing this on a reg basis now. The only problem I have is that the SSS is 67 with a Par 70. It is a rather big jump really.

Last night I clocked 5 Par's and a couple of stupid 8's. Only lost one ball because it went through a tree and then disappeared, dont have a clue where.

Is this a respectable number of Par's or should I be aiming for 9?

Getting beyond yourslef a bit, 9 pars and you should be looking at low 80's!

More importantly you should be looking at taking anything over double bogey off your card, this will see your score drop quicker than striving for more pars which was probably the reason you have 8's on the card going for Tiger Shots.

If you hit a bad shot, take you penalty and knock it back on the fairway and start again. Dont compound bad shots with trying shots a pro wouldnt even try.

Do this and you will be down to low 90's

Yeah well last night the couple of 8's were one on a Par 5 I normally Par but lost ball into trees and had a bad approach shot. No tiger shots ever.

I also had over 36 putts, prob around 42 I would say. Really bad for me.

The other 8 came on a par 5 I had a huge drive but it ended up on the right of fairway behind a tree line. Could not go under or over really hard. So decided over was only way, hit the top of tree and bounced way over to right on another fairway so had a longer shot than before, just missed green with 5I and got on green in 5. 2 putt for double bogey. Oh that was a 7 not 8 lol.

Anyway, I had some stupid chip shots which cost me a few shots too, but I had some brilliant 40Y-50Y LW shots which stopped on a six pence.

But dont aim for 9 Par's your saying just keep it cool and low all the way round. I will try this next week on holiday ! (Hopefully)

I aim to play too my handicap. Im off 17 so I know I have an extra shot. Cos of this on par 4s I am happy to be on in 3 for a 2 putt par. Some of the long par 4s at bicester are a driver 3iron for me so why risk it. I hit driver, wedge, wedge to close then 2 putt and walk off with a 5. I find doing this means I hit nearer to my handicap more often. I could hit the green with a 3iron but then i might mess up and take an 8! So play sensible! On the par 5s I hit driver, iron, iron. Then I am always on the green! I could hit driver 3 wood but whats the point! Aim for a 6 instead of aiming for a 3 or 4!

Yes that is very true but if you have a nice lie and on top of a hill looking down 230-240 on a par 5 at the green. The 3 wood has to come out lol. But If the shot is too low in grass etc I will take a 4-5I depending on depth.

I always try to beat my handicap of 28 and in all fairness I beat it every time so I think I should lower it really and get it to say 24. See how I fair then.

So quote:

See this is the tiger shot,  chip it out get 20y, you can still easily get on for 4, 2 putts and your down to a 6, Hit two good shots and a good putt and you have made par.

On the chip shots again forget flashly shots eg open lob wedge which stop on a six pence for every time you did that, it failed to work equally.

Takes discipline but only use your 8 iron from 20y away in almost all situations apart from the obvious ones eg over bunker, get the ball rolling on the green within 3 rounds you will be getting the ball closer and starting to find you 1 putt more.

There is much less than go wrong with this shot and even a poor bump and run will find the short stuff a great deal more than a poor lofted shoft.

Try it for 3 rounds leave the lofted wedges at home, you will be suprised how confident you can become around the greens using this method.

Well the only LW shots I mess up are the ones around the green fringe the longer ones which I can have a swing at are fine. So like you say think next time im out I will take that if 35-45 Y out. Anything closer will have to be 6-7I.

The going under or over. I was taking my punishment and going perpendicular to the flag to get back on fairway. But the trees were too dense and too high. So really was a bad Tee shot, but you must fade it around the corner or you stuck down in a massive dip and no chance of even seen the flag.

The greens were a little damp last night too which stopped the ball better but they were soon drying out with the sun and ended up becoming faster the more I got around, was rather strange, hear about it on TV but never had it happen to me!

say you're a 28 handicap - how does it stack up to that?

Can't be too hard on yourself
