How much further will the ball go?

Just started to play again after 13 years off.

used to play off 3 comfortably, just a bit concerned about how far out my yardages are going to be with new equipment?

My old set up was Zing 2 irons and TM bubble burners 1 & 3

Now: i5's and TM R7 superquad?

Suppose the balls are longer as well!

So what extra can I expect on each iron and my driver?

Thanks

BTW what's the best ball for me these days? - need control.

In my opinion the biggest change in golf in the last few years is the ball, sure all clubs have improved (I have just changed my driver and have seen that) but it is the golf ball where the greatest technological breakthroughs have taken place, you will be very surprised I am sure.   Loads of golf balls to chose from according to the size of your wallet, Titleist Pro V's for the rich and famous and the NXT for me. Enjoy the return

So you bought a new set of Woods and Irons without hitting any golf balls??

Beast

Yes I did - silly is'nt it - just know when a club feels right though, started playing when I was 10 and was off scratch by 17 so know what I like

Come on then how many extra yards will I be hitting it?

300 with your 3 wood!

1 Over,

Now that's silly!

perfectly achievable on a regular basis according to some members

to be honest depends what shape you are in and how well your body remembers how to swing.

I was one of the shorter hitters needing a 6 iron to get 150 yards, but now in summer with the hard ground I am doing that with an 8 iron and I am still not the longest.

I use the srixon mid range balls, Titleisy PTS Solos and Callaway warbirds which are good for me ( not too hard not too soft) and Pro V's when I find them in the rough!

Sorry, cyclelife but this Forum is sometimes plagued with absurd claims of length!

I apologise.

Seriously though it all depends on your needs, Try a couple of different brands and find one that you like, Dont just go for the longest ball as you may sacrifice feel and control with those! you can buy them in sleeves of 3 for around £4-5 a pop

I have used most mid priced Golf balls but usually plump for the NXT Tour or PTS Carry and The Srixon Trispeed or AD333. Wilson DX2's are also worth a go as are Callaway Bite

I have used PRO V1'S on several occasions but find that you have to have a strong swing to get the very best out of them not to mention a deep pockets if you tend to lose a few!

Experiment is the best option and find whats best for you!

Top Flite XL2000 should suit a 5 handicapper perfectly well I say go for them IMHO really.

Depending on what and how old your clubs were before you quit you will find that the lofts are a lot stronger now so you will find a 6 iron loft in a 7 iron now and possibley more with callaways.

So you may find everthing is now a 1 club longer but it is 13 years on physically wise so you find you hit the ball same length.

If you used to play of scratch / 3 then premium balls are really the only choice, So like all the pro's Pro V1 or Pro V1x ( i dont know the difference but better players will) will be the choice.
