Ive finnaly decided to bite the bullet and get myself tested on this badboy, after being told in no uncertain terms by 2 pros in 2 days that my shafts are well to stiff for me.

i was recomended Hatton golf near high wycombe. booked an apointment for £45 to get me tested with all clubs across the range, god knows how much it will cost to get me in the right shafts.

Its not that i have any real problem hitting the clubs, its just seems i have to try harder to get a good strike than i do with lighter shafts. and apprently im losing loads of distance with my driver.

Well we will see what the launch monitor says cant argue with hard facts.

oh and i saw a golf smiths catalogue the other day and the Vector launch monitor systesm is £2,000. if its so cheap why do so few places have them? i thought i was about 50k or somthing

Josh I'm no expert but there's a whole lot more to the fitting experience than just launch monitor stats.

Check out some of the threads & posts by rgjusa and Wormburner et. al. in the "Custom Fitting" forum. As a fitting rank novice I started this thread.

There's a wealth of info in there (a lot of it I don't even want to pretend to understand) but a launch monitor fitting session is akin to having an entire suit fitted based on the inside leg measurement alone.

Come on Chris, regular readers know that you like to pretend to understand everything!

im pretty sure the guy knows what hes doing chris, hes a master club builder and a teaching pro and stuff, apprantly taught his son who plays to +1

I had all the vector stuff done at AB Golf in Bucks (two great guys) but just by talking to rgjusa I had my eyes opened a bit more to the entire process.

As the chap you're seeing is also a master fitter also then you should be well covered. I was just trying to offer additional advice. Sorry about that.

Besides if you're rattling in +7 & +6 rounds at longer courses then there can't be that nuch wrong wi' the kit.

i read that thread chris, the wealth of information is absolutly amazing, never read anything like it. i had no clue shaft flex also has to do with transtion and time of release.

nah i know its totaly wrong im not a great golfer im just a total scrambler the last round was super lucky 28 putts 5 up and downs on a nromal putting day i would have been +12 or +13

whats wierd is that i feel my driver head  is like a cheat stick i tested 3 drivers the other day, the hi bore xls, the cobra m speed and the new mizuno, and though they went a tad furhter my current driver was straigter by miles than all of these, and im still using the clone i won from here.

i also tested some irons with graphite shafts and they felt so light and easy to hit, felt like i had to put nothing on them to get distance.

When the Vector system comes down to about £500 I will invest. In the meantime Northwick Park range has a similar system which you can use yourself. You just need to get a payment range card. Not used it yet but it looks useful.

I'm sure you get used to the clubs you play and I wonder if just test hitting a new driver can give a true picture of potential.

I went on a vector launch monitor yesterday, like I said to the pro, I purchased a 10 degree G2 driver of ebay a while ago and although advertised as a regular flex it came with a stiff Aldila NV 65 green shaft. After a good few weeks I get along with it ok, but I was conscious of all the blurb that says that as a noob I should suit a higher loft and regular flex better. So I wanted to see if that kind of driver would show better results.

When I brought in my driver from the car the pro just laughed and said even he could not hit that shaft it has a far too unforgiving kick point, apparently you need about a 110 mph swing to use it. So we teed it up and off I went.

It seams I swing at only 90mph and my back spin was 5000+, side spin of around 3000 average. my carry distance with the G2 was 198 yards with the range balls and out of the three I hit 2 went low and straighish the third was a fade but not too devastating.

Then we tried a 13 degree offset regular flex Benross driver. The three I hit averaged 3500 back spin and between -400/+3000 side spin again. Of the three drives two sliced and the carry was in the 180 yard area.

I also I tested a TM Burner draw 10.5 regular and another one that I forget the name of, that was also 13 degrees. Those last two also sliced badly and no mater what driver he put in my hands the spin went from 5000+ to 3000+ there was just no consistency at all.

In fact I hit my G2 better than all the others and it was longest by a country mile the 13 degree drivers gave me only around 180 yard carry falling to 170yds when I miss fired.

So despite being a silly driver for me to use the stiff G2 stays until I get a golf driving lesson and a better swing. I can only assume that my swing has learned to compensate for the low loft and stiff shaft as today I drove really well on the course (for my standards).

After seeing the data yesterday it seams if I buy a new driver I will have to take a leap of faith that it will suit me better in the long run and I'm not sure I want to leap blindly anywhere at £200 a time.

crux mate that could actually be absolutly true. ive never thought about that great post.

though for me personaly ive never really had a problem pickign up a stick and hitting it, i dunno i also have a SMT hibore driver with a reg shaft and i dont hit that as well as my stuff as a board clone. maybe its just the square head that i like.

Crux could have a point there. On the last two occasions I've done the fitting thing (to a greater/lesser extent) they've both struggled to find anything wrong with the irons I have (and believe you me, they would if they could) baring a "possible" minor tweak - which was borderline.

I fully intend to do a session with rgjusa before the summer's out (hopefully) and even if I do get a new set of shiny pretty new things, I certainly won't be parting company with the irons I've got now - even if they do need a minor tweak.
