Playing a 4BBB for the seniors against a neighbouring club and picked to play with The Captain (gulp)- I today failed to make a two foot putt on the last but one hole - that would have put us one up, with one to play.
They went on to win the last and the match, with a birdie.
Have you ever done anything that made you want to run around screaming.
Doh!

....well done Barry and Ken (just in case they look at the site - I told 'em to)
*two foot is a gimmee innit?*
Only joking - great company and I played a blinder anyway, so mustn't grumble.

Never mind Alan, provides a good bit of drama anyway..

Al have you ever heard of a 2ball putter apparently it makes these gimmie putts very easy HAHAHAHAH

2 years ago i had a putt to win the 18th in a 4BBB. Was the only 1 on the green after 3 on a par 5 ,opponents in a bunker.I 3 putted and they got up and down .It still rankles to this day

I was once 4 up with 6 to play, cruisin'. My opponent then went birdie, birdie, net birdie (he had a shot), and I hooked the next 2 tee shots OOB! From 4 & 6, I'm stood on the 18th tee one down! I managed to win the 18th but lost on the 1st extra hole, I felt like I'd had a good kick in the Jacobs.

Funny two footers are so much more difficult than twenty footers. I have been struck with the jumping jerk for a while. please if anyone has a cure, I have tried alcohol it wears off, and didn't work anyway.HELP!!!

Reloader, A TWO BALL? Yes quite, seriously though I had already raked in a couple of heartbreakers from more than 20 foot to keep us in it (the two guys were both single figure and one was a Cat 1) The greens were not good as they had been recently top dressed and were still sandy - dunno what happened but I struck the ball and it dived sideways.

Did something similar last year, conceeded a putt for my opponent to win a hole forgetting that they took 3 off the tee and were realy out of the hole......

I recently had a "friendly" pairs game where our opponents would not give anything unless it was in.
On the 18th, i put my ball to 2 foot and looked at one of the other pair and was not given the usual gesture. They then put their ball to 2 feet. I decided to give them their putt, put mine in and the match was halved. Whilst this did nothing for that round, it may set the scene for future games!
I suppose Gimmee's are not the way to go, but on a cold wet sunday morning in Feb, do you really need to prove that you can hit it in from close range!

I used toget really annoyed if people don't give gimmies and i think some opponents do this to wind you up.Isn't it funny though that bad putters tend to give more gimmies could it be that the they hope that their opponents will not make them putt!!!!

Yeh! I was subjected to a clever (exactly what I would do) bit of matchplay.
They had generously given short putts when it didn't matter - but on the one crucial putt that counted they walked away and waited.
Brilliant.
Plus the fact that they were two of the nicest guys I had played against.

Recent captain/pro challenge, skipper was on in regulation, I was just short. Chipped 2 and a bit feet past. Straight put. 'there's still golf left in that' I was told. Skipper putts to 2 and a bit feet past (just shorter than mine)
The tension was fantastic as my putt rolled in and nothing was said about his return.....

Never really saw the point in that Al cos if by say the 18th you miss a short putt its a fair bet that you'd have missed a few before that anyway.

On the subject of gimmies. I played a Scotsman once who never gave me any gimmies and now we all say that about ball not given that are only a few inches away. 'It's a Scotsman', meaning they never give anythign away. Not being anti-Scotsman but it was this one guy in particular. If he had come from wales i'd be writing the same stroy about Welshman and calling a 1" putt a Welshman.

 |
Hmmmmmm, a gimme is a putt you wouldn't miss anyway isn't it? so should be no problem putting it in.

I had a rather poor experience just last week in my Winter League Final (all played on normal greens btw). I was 3 up with 5 to play and did my usual and bottled it, flung away 3 holes on the trot and it was back to level, won the 17th with a par and had an uphill 2 footer for par and the match... missed it, it went to all square and I lost it on the first playoff hole after thinning a chip through the green. Was totally gutted even tho it was a "nothing" tournament I was angry at the way I lost it over the last 6 holes
