How sad is this? I've just got back from holiday in France (couldn't discover the winner of the US Open til Wednesday) and would like to share with you a beach golf practice session.
Myself and my son Pip (aged 29, off 22)) set up targets on a deserted beach upto 30 yards apart and exchanged sand-iron shots (5 balls each) from both wet and dry sand. Caused some sadly sympathetic looks from our sun-bathing respective wife/partner but didn't 'arf improve our bunker play.
Other than practising your golf swing with a French (bread) stick what other sad golfisms have you found your yourselves employing on holiday@ Over to you No.2....

Hmm, did much the same on the island of Bornholm a few years ago. Not much else happens there apart from herring fishing and drinking schnapps.

But with deserted, pure white sand beaches, the temptation was hard to resist. Each evening, I would take a half set of clubs and hit 30-40 balls off the sand - it really does improve your ball striking - and with nobody around on the huge beach, it is great for measuring your exact yardages with each iron, just walked to the plug mark and pace it off!

I saw Seve doing that at St Andrews in 1995 and along with many other fans, we watched him and Ernie Els practicing on the beach - no wonder they are so good out of sand - Seve is a magician.

My other one was in Hawaii on the Marine base next to Pearl Harbour.

My retired American friend (Ex Air Force) hated the US Marines, so what did she do, grab a bucket of balls and aim at the brave soldiers surfing on the beach - she wasn't that good, so fortunately, no injuries occured!

I decided to abstain!
