Just been reading a write up on puter tests in the US , well it is Friday.
hey are talking about a Heavy Putter that outperforms all others.
Made 30 out of 30 Straight putts and something like 28 out of 30 left to right and right to left.
Price is silly $295 but I suppose compared to a driver might not be to bad

$295 for 'puter. Not bad.

Trouble with heavy putters is that although they certainly hit it straighter, they often hit it straighter past the hole and off the green!!

The write up does not say how they did the tests, but counts number of putts holed so guess they did not roll past.
There is also some thing about weight distribution in the shaft, whether that makes the feel lighter I could not work out.

Extract from article

The new Heavy Putter – weighing 90 percent more than standard putters – handily outperformed 17 competing putter brands in a recent series of scientific tests conducted by Rankmark and Max Out Golf Labs.

In finishing first, the Heavy Putter B-3 model – featuring a mallet-style head with a heel-mounted double-bend shaft – bested the nearest competitor putter by nearly a 25-percent margin. It scored a perfect 30 in the "straight putts" category and also won the "right to left" and "left to right" tests with scores of 28 and 26, respectively. In many categories, the Heavy Putter scores are double many brand-name putters.

That's pretty much what I've found, I added 9 grams of lead tape to my regular putter over a year ago. Strangely enough though I find a lighter putter works better on v. slow greens.

Last weeks PGA tour winner was using a Heavy Putter A1 original series.

Because of the counterweighting of the putter what this putter will not do is blast it way past in an out of control manner. Although heavy, much of the weight is in the patent pending grip end of the club (have just added a A3 Matte to my putter collection)

The arc made by a club before striking the ball is called?
A) A swing
B) A Divot
C) A Stance

I'm using the Heavy Putter.
Does what it says on the tin.

Sticking weight on the head of a putter doesnt work, it needs to be balanced with weight in the grip end.

I just got a new Heavy Putter off Ebay for 100 quid and I've only used it indoors on carpet so far but I can tell you it feels superb. The contact with the ball feels soft and buttery yet very solid and the ball comes off the face with great momentum getting it rolling early. Also the weight makes it feel almost impossible not to make a smooth stroke. The feel on contact with the ball is astonishingly better than my Ping J Blade beryllium – It’s perhaps overpriced at the RRP but make no mistake this putter is definitely in the premier league with your Scotty Cameron’s etc..

Each to their own,I can't use heavy putters and my understanding is that these putters are 900gs full weight? Thats double mine,I have an original Karsten CO Anser from 1967 and it only weighs 480 grammes and I just can't use anything heavier. The head is probably 350,and I know for a fact my grip is the lightest out there available at 52,and the heavy putters have most of the extar weight in the shaft, and some on the head. They have to balance the 450 gramme heads with 250 grammes in the butt. That would drive me crazy tbh,as I said, each to their own, whatever works for you.

Drop some sand down the shaft. Might save a few bob ???

Yep - granted my bag is heavy enough already and with the new stick it could be back breaking but I normally use a trolley so hopefully it won't cause me too much pain!

I think at the RRP they are overpriced and that usually sets off the 'gimmick' alarm bells but I managed to pick one up at a decent price when compared to other premium models and I'm happy because its miles better than what I was using but I'm not naive enough to believe it's a miracle cure like on the Golf channel adds..!

Another reason why I was unhappy with the ping is that it was far too long at 35" - more and more putters seem to be available in shorter shafts these days so I got the 32" model which fits perfectly. As you say I could have had it chopped down but would filling the shaft with sand be legal? especially if some fell out during the round to change the playing characteristics of the club?

As for the club head weight I was actually expecting it to feel a little heavier and it can be adjusted to – I got the B3 model in matte finish… Not sure what the exact specs are though…

Just got back from 4 rounds of golf in Spain (costa blanca/murcia region) and I have to say the heavy putter performed excellently. 3 Putts were kept to a minimum and unlike others I had no problem with long putts on the fast greens at all. It just works really well...

I have trouble starting the putter back when it's really heavy. You're supposed to grip the putter very lightly, I don't know how you can grip it lightly and make it move back smoothly at the same time. Plus, how do you get a feel for the putter head when it's so heavy.

Each to their own though. If it works, who cares, I guess.

Yep,the modern rush for heavy putters is beyond me.Everyone seems to want to weight the heads and unless they weigh 350 and over its regarded as to light! Mickelson is over 6 foot yet uses a 33 1/2" putter with 330 head.I have a 40 year old Anser at 34" and it weighs 475 gramems, yet when everyone poicks it up they hate the lightness.I need the lighter putter to encourage a light grip and a free stroke.I can't swing freely with these newer heavier putters and my distance control goes berzerk. Each to their own

I think the difference with the Heavy Putter is that the heavy head is balanced with weights in the top of the shaft. I don't feel as if I grip this club any firmer than with a "normal" putter and on the feel side of things there is bags of feedback and it feels very soft when striking the ball.

Hmmm,I can't use any putter that feels soft, less feedback through to the grip.I also think the biggest issue is your natural tendency on putting,do you stroke or rap? I rap and i like to accelerate through the ball, this is easier for me with a normally weighted head, once I have a heavier putter I have to totally change to a stroke which doesn't suit me,but many stroke putters have normal putters,Crenshaw and Mickelson for starters. Its such a personal thing.
