I'm thinking of buying one of the above. Anyone own or have thoughts on these clubs. Is there anything out there better in the £100-150 range?

If you can find a G2 for 150 or less you will probably have a contender. The Mizuno is very good, nod mad long but very straight and has a decent feel when you hit it well. I reckon the composite construction works very well, with the weight at the bottom. I haven't tried the Callaway 454 but I have last year's version (370cc I think), which is quite good but you have to chose the shaft carefully. I'm going to put this one for sale and will probably keep the Mizuno for a long time

The G2 certainly sounds good, especially for the price, compared to other top drivers. It also one the 'BEST DRIVER' award in this month's Today's Golfer. I have Mizuno woods, so I'd like to match them up with a Mizuno driver (sill I know), I'll check out the G2 though. What shaft do you recommend for it for an average swing speed.

 Evan
just a thought - do you wear a cap or a visor on the course ?? If so, it might be too tight!!
My caps have to be specially made in the US and sent over, you cruel man!
Back to the G2 driver, what's the best shaft option, the TFC 100D graphite shaft, Aldila NV 65 or the Grafalloy ProLaunch 65 shaft. I've got a regular shaft on my current driver and have an average swing speed and high ball flight. G2 has a fitting centre, but it's way up north and I'm miles from any testing centres. Any help appreciated.

I have a G2 with Grafalloy PL Regular. I have a 95-97mph swing speed and a slowish tempo. I think the shaft feels solid but not too stiff and I get a good long mid-high flight from it. Personally I don't like the TFC shafts, which I think are too whippy. Aldila NV Regular is also pretty good, and is surprisingly flexible and lively. The Aldila website says this shaft is suitable for 90-100mph driver swing speed.

This is the link to the NV fitting page. Scroll down a bit for the table of swing spped and shafts.

Have tried the 454 and honestly was not that impressed - everyone seems to be raving about the G2 but have you considered the Cobra SZ 440? - an absolute joy to play with!
 You can get a range of drivers in that price bracket, such as;
Taylormade R540XD & R580XD Cleveland Launcher 460 Mizuno MP-001 400cc & 460cc Cobra 400SZ & 440SZ
I suggest you try some out, because some Drivers suit different players.

I have a 454 and have been using it over the past 4 months. I am very impressed with it and love the loud "ping" on impact. At the moment it is probably the most reliable club in my bag. I have the standard graphite shaft in stiff trim. I have just bought a MP 001 5 wood and am very, very impressed with it so may consider a change for next season, depending on how well i drive this summer. The 454 gives me a good penetrating ball flight with little effort and off centre strikes still fly fairly straight. I have to admit that I wish I had gone for the Ping in the first place though reading all the reviews and hype on it!

You've really got to try them all.
I tried a 454, MP001, G2 and SZ440 at a demo day.
Couldn;t play the MP001, 454 gave me too little distance, G2 and SZ440 were identical - settled on the G2 (with Aldila NV Reg) for £175

although i have never tried the ping, the cobras are fantastic

Evan I'm not trying to sell on the forum(again) but if you want a G2 with a regular graphite pro-launch shaft I've got one spare. Personally I prefer the Callaway 454 but if the G2 is for you, email me. I've been told, unchecked, that Direct golf are doing the 454 for £139.
Kev, I've looked on Direct-Golf's website and the 454 is at £170 in Graphite.

The guy that told me is always doing that I think it's sour grapes, when you get something new he always asks how much you paid and he always tell you you could have got it cheaper.
County Golf are doing the 454 at £169.99 inc Free Delievry...
Paul.
