Hi Ive been playing golf on and off for about 3 years but have recently started playing regularly and having lessons. I would like to change my clubs from my £60 donnays to the best set around the £300 to £400 max mark. Any suggestions on what type? ive been looking at the mizuno comp cts are they any good? thanks

I like them. Don't play with them, but have hit them quite a lot, and they feel good.

I quite fancy the Comp CTs. I currently play with a cheapo set of Hippos, but I'm going to wait before I get new clubs until I'm consistently scoring in the low nineties.
I don't think I'm swinging very consistently at the moment, but when I think I am, my new clubs will be custom fit.

No no no no THE best set you can get for that money are the cleveland TA5's or TA4's if youre lucky enough to find a set. Forgiving, accurate, workable(ish).
Gun Metal is an added bonus - looks absoloutely great.

Mizuno are good, but the CT's are near the bottom of the range, ive compared the sets and the mizunos are always the bottom of the pile.

Got a set of CTs last year got on ok with them but hit them really high and lost yrds per club compared to my old set ..so in the end flogged them and got a new version of the old clubs i was using which were T/Armour 845s oversize..
But paul try for yourself you are the one who has to play with them ..i know 3 people who play CTs and have improved their game with them, just not right for me ..

Been researching further, John letters T3 irons are within my price range and meant to be good, does anyone know anything about these? Theo I cant find the clevelands in shops? Im gonna take ians advice and try some out on range. Thanks

The Comp-CT's have certainly had a lot of good press and the best price I've seen them at is £300. For the John Letters T3's they are nice clubs with a lot of offset. I go back to my thread under general. Don't just go for the name. Some of the British makes are getting really good reviews at the moment. And you can say yourself some money.

I,m with Theo on this one, my Cleveland Ta5s are by far my best purchase in golf, very forgiving
and resonably workable. Bought them near the end of last season and my handicap is now dropping as regular as a Tarts Knickers.

Sorry - i cannot stay out of this one. I've tried, but it's too difficult.

Comp CT was voted the best iron available for under £400 by the readers of Today's Golfer in a complete landslide.

Not my opinion, just that of the people that use them.

Apologies again.

I played with CT for sometime and now play with MX20 which are fantastic. The feel is like rubber glove full of vasolene to a poor man in a workhouse.

Good analogy Roland, reminds me of a report in a car magazine about the seamless power of a particular engine - 'like forcing cream through a firehose'

Have you compared the MX20's with the Comp EZ's by any chance?

No Alan I came from Taylor Made to MX20 but I have a colleague who swears by his EZ's and he is off 8 - so he knows something about the game - or so he constantly tells us

I have jsut made a purchase of the Fli-Hi by Mizuno (18 Degree) - I was considering a five wood but thought this might be a different option. I have yet to go live with the beast but results from the green mat are very good - sweet sound and with the stiff graph shaft. It also has a dinky head cover which was the main reason I bought it - joking. The main reason was to drop it onto the green from 200yds away - Anybody else used this tool.

I should have gone for the five wood - especially if anthing like the 3 wood which has a superb ball flight - ogh well its only money

Mizuno irons are superb, however I am in the process of changing my Mizuno woods to something more forgiving.
When they're struck well they are brilliant but if not out of the sweetspot distance and accuracy fall dramatically.

Has anyone else ordered custom fitted irons from Mizuno recently and if so how long did they have to wait for delivery?

I was fitted for my Pro II's three weeks ago yesterday and I'm still waiting.

At this rate I'll be back at work before I get a chance to play with them.

Ken - where did you order these irons?

It doesn't take this long.

We'll look into it for you.

Thanks David.

I've sent you a seperate e-mail with the details.

Roland,
I have the Mizuno Fli-Hi 21 deg with the stiff steel shaft.
Excellent feel and distance from the club, use it instead 3 iron from tee and fairway.Excellent for 180-210yds par 3's or approach shots when 5 wood is much club. Considered a 7 wood but went for Fli-Hi instead as confidence is still low with 3 iron.
Only problem is that i was supplied with no head cover, and soft head marks easily (David@Mizuno can you help???)

For info for others out there.

The turnaround on custom fit Pro II irons from Mizuno suppliers is currently 5 working days.

Thanks,

David Matthews - Mizuno
